In the middle years, there are several major physical changes. There are changes in hearing
and vision, as well as weight gain and increased joint pain. Age has an impact on vision. The eye's lens grows larger as humans age; however, the eye tends to lose some flexibility needed to adapt to visual stimuli (Salin et al.). Presbycusis develops gradually as people age. It appears to be inherited and may be caused by changes in the auditory nerve and inner ear. Osteoarthritis develops gradually and generally appears in middle age. Weight gain is generally associated with ageing. Muscle mass usually declines with age, whereas fat mass grows. The brain works slower and has more complexity in managing multiple tasks (Papalia and Martorell).
