Part I:
Directions: Considering the PowerPoint on technical design, revise your Visual Incorporation Project( see the word file in the attachment). Redesign the assignment to look as professionally impressive as possible, considering the various principles of design. Also, write a list of design elements you utilizedin this revision
Step 1:Open your Visual Incorporation lab and brainstorm how to improve the design of the assignment.
Step 2:Re-read thePowerPoint(in the attachment) with design elements.
Step 3:Re-design the assignment to create impressive report format and good page design.
Step 4:On a new page, write a BULLETED LIST inparallelstructure (reminder: grammar term, not design term)of design elements you used in order to create an aesthetically pleasing page.
Your assignment will be graded according to our lab/project rubric (ONLY DESIGN) and will be revisable if submitted on time and fulfills all requirements.I drop your lowest three lab scores for your final semester grade. All assignments scan throughSafeAssign, so please author your own work.
Part II:
Describe some of the visual features in one of your favorite textbooks (online or print). What textual design features help you understand your course material? In what ways can you utilize these visual tactics for your feasibilityreport?
Part III:
write a short reply to the following posts(about 50 words is good enough)
I'll post it once you finished the part II.
The part II will due on 11/04
Some key technical aspects for report aesthetics Technical Report Design 1 Enhancing Your Report 1 Headings 2 Paragraphs Lists 3 Graphics 4 Borders Lines 5 Space 2 Ideas to Keep in Mind Consistency Classiness Access Points Contrast [No] Clutter 3 Access Points Remember, reports are often not read cover-to-cover in a specific order or in their entirety. 4 Headings, paragraphs, page numbers, graphics, borders/lines, and space help create manageable, easy-to-find, and quick-to-read chunks of information. We call these “chunks” access points. 5 Headings LABEL EVERYTHING 1 6 Capitalization is your choice Parallel structure is a MUST Headings should stand out First-Level should stand out the most, Third-Level the least. Large sections of your paper will get first-level headings. A smaller category within this section will get a second-level heading. A small category within the second-level section will get a third-level heading First-Level, Second-Level, Third-Level Headings 7 2 Paragraphs/Lists Clear, concise wording 8 Paragraphs that contain a lot of data/content should be complemented by a visual to display the content. Consider psychological effect of paragraph Play with “skinniness” of paragraph Divide paragraphs by topics. Be sure to use clear wording as if there is no heading. Insert text boxes for better control of text (remove border). Paragraph Size and Length 9 Use numbered lists for items that have a specific order/level of importance Use bulleted lists for items that have no specific order Use lists often to create easy-to-read info Keep lists parallel Write lists after a preview sentence Always indent lists Lists 11 3 Graphics Think visually! 12 Always use a visual AFTER you have discussed info in a paragraph I will provide a whole lesson for proper visual incorporation. Use realistic, professional images Use maps, photos, diagrams Create your own charts, graphs, tables to display data DO NOT use clip art/random ornamental pics Graphic Tips 13 Lines/Borders Create contrast and clear grouping/Fill white space 4 14 5 Space Everything in moderation 17 Use white space to create frames, signify the end of a section, and to keep page uncluttered. Be careful of too much or too little white space. White Space 18 Your turn! EGL 310 Technical Writing Yimu Tao Incorporation of Visuals into Reports Visual 1 based on research Classical music has its roots in traditional western music. It has been known to have a positive impact on nerves, brain and concentration. Research indicates that classical music does have a positive impact on learning and memorization. It helps build better understanding of the concepts being studied. It also helps create a stronger level of ability to relax and focus. All of these elements are an essential part of classical music training and so it does help build better learning and memorization. Classical music is one of the most popular genres of music. 15 people out of the 42 people surveyed listen to classical music and 14 of them listen to Rock or metal music (see Figure 1). This indicates that classical music is quite popular. Figure 1: Popularity of classical music Classical music, originally, is art music which includes liturgical or religious music and classical music. It is focused on the music formed in the medieval era and includes the renaissance period. It was formed using instruments from the Baroque era, such as the cello, contrabass, recorder, trombone, timpani, fortepiano and organ which provide an effective level of music and rhythm. This forms the basis of building a stronger understanding of how to concentrate and how to focus on creating better associations and indicates a strong level of popularity due to its functionality and discipline. Visual 2 created based on data Continents % of population that listens to classical music Asia 82% Australia 46% North America 63% South America 40% Africa 78% Europe 42% Antarctica 35% Table 2: Data showing percentage of people that listen to classical music The graph indicates that classical music is quite popular around the world. Classical music is most popular in Asia as 82% of the population listen to classic music, Africa as 78% of the people listen to classical music and North America as 63% of the population listen to classical music. Figure 2: Data showing percentage of people that listen to classical music Classical music helps form the ‘Mozart effect’ where in classical music helps improve memorization based on helping relax the nervous system, improving concentration and also helping form associations all of which can help improve the speed and intensity of learning and memorization. It helps build a technique of rhythm and short term improvement in performance of some of the mental tasks which is known as ‘spatial temporal reasoning’. This does help improve critical thinking to a great extent. It also helps evaluate things from different perspectives and use the left brain and right brain in a balanced manner. It helps ensure better mental growth as well. The main purpose of using classical music in leaning and memorization is that it helps create the Mozart effect and spatial temporal reasoning, both of which are essential for effective learning and memorization (Thompson, Billie M.; Andrews, Susan R., 2000). It helps ensure that there be effective health benefits as well as it helps create mental relaxation. It helps form a stronger level of mental growth, all of which are essential for improving learning and memorization. So, classical music and training in classical music is essentially helpful for the purpose of improving learning and memorization skills. In present times, with advanced neurology, psychology and other interventions, it becomes possible to help children and adults learn and memorize better. Using classical music as an intervention has proven to be effective in the past and so researching this further becomes essential. It can help build better confidence among children when they are able to learn and memorize. It helps them perform better. At present there is no complete research carried out in the field of classical music and its impact on learning and memorization (Pietschnig, Jakob; Voracek, Martin; Formann, Anton K, 2010). This makes it extremely essential that there be usage and research on classical music and its impact on learning and memorization. These perceptions are definitely not baseless. Research has proven this to some extent but further research becomes essential to be able to evaluate the impact and extent to which classical music can help improve learning and memorization (William Pryse-Phillips, 2003)..
