About this booklet This assessment booklet has been designed for students undertaking face-to-face mode of study to provide information before you undertake these assessments. It also contains assessment tools to assess the skills and knowledge required from you to be deemed competent in this unit.  · Information on resources required, where applicable PART 1 Assessment Information PART 1: Assessment information Application of the unit of competency: This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to mitigate security threats to a wireless local area network (WLAN) by implementing security standards and policies. It applies to individuals with advanced information and communications technology (ICT) skills who are working as wireless help desk support technicians, wireless network support specialists and wireless network engineers. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. Unit Sector Networking Purpose of assessment: The purpose of assessment is to determine competency in the unit ICTNWK607 - DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT WIRELESS NETWORK SECURITY Elements 1. Plan to implement wireless network security 2. Design, implement and test guest access services 3. Design, implement and test the security of wireless client devices 4. Design, implement and test the integration of wireless network with organisational network admission control systems 5. Evaluate and plan secure wireless connectivity services 6. Manage the requirements to integrate the WLAN with advanced security platforms Performance evidence: Evidence of the ability to: · Conduct research and produce a security solutions plan · Evaluate, design and implement a wireless local area network (WLAN) site security plan · Evaluate end-to-end security solutions and assess their integration with the planned wireless solutions · Use network tools to test wireless controllers and intrusion prevention and detection system (IPDS) solutions. Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once. Knowledge evidence: To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must: · Explain configuration, verification and troubleshooting procedures to undertake: · Router operation and routing · Virtual local area network (VLAN) switching and inter-switching communications · Outline iDevice Operating System (iOS) and internet protocol (IP) networking models · Explain intrusion prevention system (IPS) and intrusion detection system (IDS) security protection · Outline threat mitigation strategies · Summarise the following aspects of wireless, including: · Current regulations, standards and certifications · Deployment schemes · Network security technology · Network topologies, architectures and elements · Networking protocols · Summarise WLAN with reference to: · Advanced security platforms · Devices, their specification and use · Radio frequency characteristics and their measuring techniques Context and conditions for assessment: To comply with the assessment conditions of this unit: · Students must demonstrate adequate skills and knowledge evidence by providing a satisfactory outcome for each assessment task. They will be marked against the recommended model answers in this trainer and assessor guide. · Practical skills for this unit of competency will be demonstrated in NAIT Computer Lab located at 375 Bridge Rd, Richmond, Melbourne, Victoria 3121 with access to business Information and case study. · Computer Lab is fully equipped with computers, printer, server, software and access to appropriate networks e.g. LAN and internet access. · Theory assessment will take place in class room located at 375 Bridge Rd, Richmond, Melbourne, Victoria 3121 · Students will have access to suitable facilities, equipment and resources, including template documentation to undertake the assessment tasks for this unit of competency. · Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements. Resources required: The assessor will ensure that assessment is conducted in a safe environment. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the general information and communications technology (ICT) industry and you have access to the following resources for the unit: · Access to NAIT Computer Lab with access to standard equipment, case study, scenarios and industry software packages · Student learner Guide · Presentation Slides · a site or prototype where network installation may be conducted · hardware and software · organisational guidelines · live network · stand-alone and lightweight WLAN controllers and access points (AP) · hardware and software WLAN site survey tools · hardware and software IDS and IPS. · CISCO Packet Tracer · Router, switch, servers, firewall and PCs. Clustering/holistic assessment: There is no provision for clustering of assessments in this unit. Competency requirements: To be judged competent in this unit, you will be required to demonstrate all indicators which are shown in the Marking Guide (assessor’s document). You must satisfactorily complete all assessment tasks to be Competent (C) in the unit. Students with unsatisfactory completion of any of the assignment tasks will be deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC). Assessors will ensure that the evidence collected meets the requirements of the Rules of Evidence (authentic, current, sufficient and valid) prior to entering results into the competency record sheet. Students unsuccessful at achieving “Satisfactory” for any assessment at the first attempt will be given two opportunities for reassessment. If the student is still deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC) after two reassessments in a unit of competency student will be required to repeat the unit as per the scheduled delivery of the course. For further details, refer to NAIT Re-Assessment Policy and NAIT Course Progress Policy. Assessment tasks: To achieve competency in this unit, you must satisfactorily complete all the following assessment tasks within the date and time specified on timetable/session plan.
