Part 2: Williamsville Quadrangle
The structure of the rock units in Part 1 was simple horizontal layering. Therefore, the contacts between different units followed the topographic contour lines. This will not be the case for more complicated structures. In this section of the lab we will consider a more complicated situation. Note that the boundaries between rock layers no longer follow the topographic contours. Use the map to answer the following questions.
1. What rock formation is present at the top of Shenandoah Mountain, on the east side of the map? (Hint: use the legend on the map)
2. A long fault runs from southwest to northeast across this map. What type of fault is it? (Hint: consult the legend for the map.)
