Part 2
Organizing Data
Imagine that the researchers who conducted the study about energy drink consumption described in Part 1 of this Competency Assessment have asked you to organize a set of data for them. The following dataset contains 30 participants’ self-reports of how many energy drinks they consume in a week.
Energy drinks consumed by 30 participants: 6, 5, 3, 8, 5, 8, 4, 4, 9, 2, 3, 2, 7, 5, 6, 2, 1, 5, 6, 1, 8, 3, 3, 5, 7, 8, 2, 1, 2, 9
Using this dataset complete the following:
A. Download the Data Table Template, then fill in the cells of the table by listing the frequency of each value from the dataset, the relative frequency of each value, and the percent of each value. Your computed relative frequency and percent might not equal exactly 1.0 and 100%, respectively, due to rounding error.
B. When the frequency table is complete, respond to the following items in the response area below.
Be sure to explain how you arrived at each of your answers and support each answer with evidence, including citations, from the text and/or resources.
Describe how you computed the “Frequency of Value” column.
1. Describe how you computed the “Relative Frequency of Value” column.
2. Describe how you computed the “Percent of Value” column.
3. What is the
combined relative frequency
of the odd-numbered values? Explain your calculation and what the result tells you about the number of energy drinks this sample consumed in a week.
4. What is the
cumulative frequency
of values falling at or below 5? Explain your calculation and what the result tells you about the number of energy drinks this sample consumed in a week.
Note:
You
will upload your completed Data Table Template to the classroom along with this Written Response template.
