Chapter Five
Question One
Orphan Trains were the invention of Charles Brace, a minister who tried to find solution to the large influx of migrants appearing in New York City (Hai). In fact, families from all parts of nation were gathering in the urban areas where industrial expansion was in progress. Thus, a large amount of unnecessary population appeared over the two decades in 19th century
Especially with children, they did not receive expected support such as good parenting or schooling. They were more such as the ‘part of debris’ created in the city Charles tried to sort this issue by making Children Aid Society in 1835 with the help of influential people in society. He could arrange for the foster care system that is currently seen in the modern social context in United States (Seita).
Question Two
As per my observation of the evolution of Orphan Trains, I would have followed the footprints of Charles in terms of making the lives of homeless children socially secured. I might have added the fact that children sent to west get formal grooming at schools on government expanses (Hai).
This would particularly be applicable over the children who would not find parents in spite of being open for adoption. My point of focus would be on developing foster centers were such children would be kept and well taken care of. Regardless of the problems in the system, I would also have proposed policies to alleviate the life norms of such children who were forced to lead marginalized life in New York City.
