Paper topic = *Chron's Disease*

The topic of the research paper will be any disease or condition of the body. The paper must include a thorough description of the disease/condition; current statistics of those affected - epidemiology; financial costs both terms of treatment and loss of productivity; explanations on how the various body systems (anatomically and/or physiologically) are affected; etiology; medications/treatments that are available; prognosis of those affected, and future outlook in general.

Your paper should be written in the THIRD PERSON taking the individual out of the writing and avoiding pronouns such as I, we, my, our (first person) and you, yours, your, us, we (second person). You should deal with facts and not opinions, thus providing citations within your paper and on your reference page. Focus on the subject itself and not on your feelings about the subject. The use of third person retains a formal tone in your writing. The use of first and second person can make a document seem more casual.

Research Paper Pointers Things to DO when writing a paper: Review the directions and grading rubric for your paper FIRST. DO read the APUS policy on Plagiarism and follow it! The university has zero tolerance policy for plagiarism in the classroom, and if your paper is determined to be plagiarized, you will receive a zero for the assignment. Research and use a minimum of five references (journal, book, article…); the APUS Library a great resource! NEVER use Wikipedia as your reference. It is commonly erroneous, and if used in your paper, points will be deducted. Once you’ve gathered the information you need to write your paper, begin by making an outline of your paper. Determine how your information will be organized. Decide how many paragraphs you will include in your paper, and, in what order they will appear. DO follow the APA guidelines for your references, as no other reference style will be accepted and you will be deducted points if you use another style (i.e. NO footnotes!). DO include in-text citations throughout your text at the end of any sentence that introduces new information about your topic from a reference. All in-text citations should be listed in APA format as well. Do follow the directions and submit a paper that is double-spaced, 12 point font, one-inch margins, etc. (See details inside the rubric and the sample APA-formatted document). DO use hyphens in words that need one (e.g., forty-five). DO include a well-defined (obvious, stand-alone paragraph) introduction and conclusion. DO understand that the minimum number of sentences required to make a paragraph is 3! If you try to make a paragraph out of 1 long sentence, or 2 sentences, you will be deducted points. Finally, DO proofread! This is such a simple thing that can save you so many points. You are at the college-level, and I expect quality work from you. Things to NOT DO when writing a paper: Do NOT include a lot of direct quotes in your paper. Less than 10% of...

Crohn's Disease
Crohn's Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC) comes under the category of inflammatory bowel dise
ase (IBD), which is characterized by chronic intestinal inflammation. CD is only associated with the bowel inflammation, where it will affect the small and large intestine i.e. ileum and colon. However, case reports suggest that it can spread in any parts of digestive tract i.e. from the mouth to the anus and from entire thickness of the bowel wall. These type of bowel inflammation leads to diarrhea, abdominal pain, and various symptoms such as fever and weight loss.
Current statistics of CD
As per the latest data from Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, around 1.4 million Americans are suffering from Crohn’s disease or related diseases like ulcerative colitis and out of total around 700,000 have CD with chronic symptoms. One data as per yearly study suggest that between the years 1992 and 2004, around 74% doctor’s office visits was increase due to high incidence of Crohn’s disease. However, data of 2004 suggested that CD was the cause of approximately 58,000 hospitalizations.Various clinical reports suggested that CD exist about equally in both men and women, while first time report data suggest case of patients less than 30 years old and in range of 14-24 years. On the other hand, data suggest that between the ages of 50 and 70 years, quite smaller proportion of patients may develop CD, but the disease may vary in different forms. Scientist reported that the exact cause of CD is unknown, while a family history of IBD has been largely linked with increased risk of developing the disease. Data suggested that about 20% of individuals with CD have a blood relative with some form of IBD, mainly a sibling and occasionally a parent or child. Some other factors were found such as cigarette smoking, which might proof to contribute to the development or exacerbation of Crohn's Disease.
Causes of CD
