Page 1 Kaplan Business School Assessment Outline Assessment 2 Information Subject Code: HRM302 Subject Name: Managing Change Assessment Title: Case Study Report Assessment Type: Written Report Word Count: 1200 Words (+/- 10%) Weighting: 40 % Total Marks: 40 Submission: via Turnitin Due Date: Week 10 Monday 3:55 pm, AEST Your Task The objective is to provide a written report which analyses a conflict situation and recommend intervention strategies. We have looked at number of diagnostic tools to help with our analysis, so here you are to apply at least one diagnostic tool to assess the conflict and identify potential intervention strategies. Assessment Description Sometimes in situations where change is needed in an organisation, conflict can occur, and this is the case with the case study we have been applying to the theory each week. As a result, there is now additional information available for you to help assess the conflict and potential interventions you could apply. You will take on the role of the ‘Change Agent’ to complete the report. You think everything is flowing smoothly and at a recent management meeting you discover that some of the staff are not happy with the change process and feel they have lost their social identity within the organisation, as a result there is a lack of synergy between the different work groups. There is an argument that the relationship with the leadership team is confusing, as employees feel they’re not sure of who they work for, there is a lack of clarity around expectations and they are not sure on who can be trusted. There has been a perception the leadership team is not open with communication and as a result employee are feeling a mixture of the following: • A loss of control within their own roles and the unit they work for. • Confusion in relation to overall organisational culture, values and ideologies. • There is lack of clarity in the objectives as to why the change is happening. • Lack of understanding as to the benefits the change may present. • How resources are being divided and applied, some groups feel they now have a lack of or limited access to different resources. • Integration between units is struggling due to lack of procedural and management processes. • A feeling of complete exhaustion, as there have been so many changes so quickly. As the ‘Change Agent’ you need to evaluate the situation and recommend some intervention strategies. Introduction
Culture is like the essence of the organisation & employees are in centre of this. They are one of the most critical aspect of any organization. Many cultural strategies fail because leadership overlooks how such changes are communicated on the ground. Many a times top management doesn’t pay attention to how their employee would incorporate such changes. No matter how good the strategy may be if it is not executed well its culmination is in ashes. The culture is not very clearly stated yet it very well adjudicates the way employees behaves and determines a fashion in which management interacts with employees. A healthy culture encourages the employees to stay motivated and loyal towards the management. Hence, any cultural change can only be successful when people take action. Rather than imposing employees should be incorporated in any cultural change else the entire process will be an invite for disaster. Leadership needs to make sure that they articulate the mission in such a way that employees can see a value in the desired change. Most productive movement champions are extremely good at building coalitions, bridging disparate groups to form a larger and more diverse network that shares a common purpose (Schraeder, M., & Self, D. R., 2003).
Seven Levers of Change
Application of Leadership & How it can drive Positive Change
A leader needs to prioritize the change that can help the organisation not only survive the test of time but also thrive on the dynamics. A lot of people have thrown around the word’s efficiency and effectiveness and most people think that you need both. Chances are if there's an option that is both effective and efficient, the option will be 50% effective and 50% efficient. Choosing both is still ineffective! Second most important ingredient of leadership is Integrity. Without it, even if people follow someone, they will not keep them for very long. Simplest form of integrity is the idea that one has to do what you say. One has to practices what one preaches. It's one of the hard traits to achieve and once mastered it builds credibility and more credible one becomes; the more confidence people place in you. It becomes...
