This
assessment requires you to demonstrate your ability to research and select
three innovative resources relevant to the cross-curriculum priorities and
articulate how they can be used in F-6 Humanities classrooms to help students
develop knowledge and understanding relating to broader enduring ideas that
underpin the Humanities and Social Sciences in the Australian Curriculum.
The
purpose of this task is to assist you in understanding where cross-curriculum
priorities are identified, using icons, in the learning areas of the Australian
Curriculum. Your successful research and selection of artefacts will better
prepare you to add depth and richness to student learning and provide you with
tangible ideas about how you can successfully teach HASS content that addresses
the cross-curriculum priorities.
You
will research, select and critically review three resources that explicitly
address the following cross-curriculum priorities:
Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia;
sustainability; and
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Histories and Cultures.
You
will compile yourthree innovative resources into a
portfoliosuitable for a web resource using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or
similar software to generate a PDF (e.g., a WordPress page, MS
Publisher).
Task
To
prepare for this task, research, select and critically review three resources
relevant to the three cross-curriculum priorities. Choose one resource
per cross-curriculum priority.Create a portfolio suitable for a web
resource and:
1.
Provide a brief
overview (and any visuals) for each resource and identify one possible learning
activity that makes explicit connections to the essential knowledge,
understanding and skills for the priority at a specific year level in a HASS
classroom (make sure you state the year level). (200 words per resource or 600
words in total)
2.
Explicate how
each resource can be used to embed the cross-curriculum priority in a HASS
classroom to help students demonstrate inquiry and skillsorknowledge
and understanding (200 words each per resource or 600 words in total)
3.
Argue how your
selected resources promote learner awareness of the three cross-curriculum
priorities and give students the knowledge and skills to engage with and better
understand their world. (150–200 words each per resource for 550 words
in total)
