Over the course of the semester, you have had the opportunity to practice several different pre-writing strategies, including freewriting, mind mapping, outlining, and using data grids as graphic organizersFor this writing & discussion activity, please pick your favorite pre-writing strategy and use it to organize your ideas for your Position Statement essay.
Then, in 1-2 paragraphs, summarize your ideas and provide your working (rough draft) thesis statement here. Your goal is to explain your pre-writing to your classmates and let them know what you're plan is for your essay. For your "plan" may also wish to:
- describe where your research has led you,
- describe any gaps in your research that you need to fill,
- overview your current understanding of your topic.
Finally, build a working thesis statement from your pre-writing. Your thesis statement is a one-two sentence summary of your entire argument. After reading it, your audience should have a clear picture of what your main argument is. What is the answer to your research question?
Post your pre-writing, explanation, and working thesis statement here. If you have any questions, concerns, or want feedback on specific areas of your work please do let us know!
Follow-up Posts:
Please provide feedback on your classmates' initial essay plans. For this exercise, instead of providing longer feedback on 1-2 of your classmates' work, please plan on providing short ~100 word comments using our standard "like, wonder, connect" method on 2-3 of their posts!
