Organizational Change Intervention Proposal
The Organizational Change Intervention Proposal is your final project. It is a research study in which you plan a change intervention for an organization of your choice. Consider yourself a strategic business partner in constructing and implementing an organizational intervention. Research a company that you have read about either in the newspaper or online that you feel should undergo an organizational transformation (Examples: Apple, Bank of America, Wal-Mart, Comcast, Chevy, Wachovia Bank, Aetna, etc.) Through research, you will gather information and insights that will help you develop a strategic change intervention for the company. The change intervention may attempt to affect change and improve areas such as human resources, marketing, finance, the organizational structure, or its decision-making processes of the company. This project will help you to understand how the organizational change process works and will give you some relevant experience analyzing and planning change for an organization. You are expected to submit a complete bibliography of scholarly resources to support your findings in the proposal. Do not rely solely on your textbooks for content, although they are a good starting point. Leverage the Ashford University Library and Writing Center resources for instructions and guidance when conducting research and organizing the proposal.
Your final deliverable will be a 10-12 slide presentation or PDF of the presentation stating your findings. The presentation will illustrate your change intervention plan from beginning to end and will feature text, colorful graphics, and complete speaker’s notes (150 words per slide minimum), all of which will serve to make the presentation informative and engaging.
Here are the key components of your project:
- State the company name.
- Describe the intervention and why change is necessary.
- List steps for change.
- Summarize appropriate actions for the steps to plan, implement, and manage the change.
- Describe the skills and principles that support effective change leadership.
- Estimate how long will it take.
- Describe the people involved in managing the change.
- Discuss barriers and resistance to change and how to overcome them.
- Summarize how to handle any backlash the company encounters from employees.
Organizational Change Project Guidelines
In order to realize the possible impacts of an organizational intervention, you will plan an organizational change project and include the following
You will begin this course by selecting an organization. Your selection may be a public- or private-sector organization in areas such as business, international business, health, government, military, or education. Your organization should have enough written about it to fully research and analyze a need for change.
In Week 1, You read the final project in Week 6 and selected a company that needs change intervention. You drafted a 1 page overview of the company, with resources.
In Week 2, you researched your selected organization. First, remembering that all organizational change begins at the top, you identified the leadership of the organization. You also identified specific departments integral to successful overall organizational change. Take great notes and look for case studies that describe behaviors of staff, clients and culture of the company. Prepare a 2 – 3 page overview of the company leadership and the impact they have had on your selected organization. Include additional resources you have selected.
Remember, that you will be citing your scholarly resources in your final presentation. Be sure to keep a list of resources to compile a bibliography to be submitted as a final slide of references in your presentation.
In Week 3, you created an outline of the change intervention plan. You should have taken some time to evaluate and interpret the information gathered from research thus far. You stated a problem that needs a change intervention in your outline. You addressed the following: Is the intervention a process or a task intervention? Is the change consistent with the organization’s vision, mission, values, and business practices? Using the gathered material from your research of the organization, you outlined a plan and the steps for intervention. The change intervention may attempt to affect, change, and improve areas such as human resources, marketing, finance, the organization structure, or decision-making processes.
You also created an annotated bibliography this week, building off the resources submitted in Weeks 1 and 2. This is a list of books, articles, and documents related to organizational change and the organization you chose for your project. Each citation should be followed by a brief (usually 150 words) descriptive, evaluative paragraph. The purpose of each annotation is to help form the basis of your research and your initial exploration of the organization. You began your research with four bibliographies, two of which relate to how to plan and implement a change project, and two of which contain information about your chosen organization. A final slide for references in your presentation from this list was included.
In Week 4, a proposal was generated from your outline. You should have been strategic and refined your plan into some concrete action items. Consideration was given about how to present your plan in an effective way to stakeholders. What changes, good and bad, might result from your change intervention plan? Do you anticipate resistance to change?
You will share your change intervention proposal and these thoughts with your peers in the Week 5 Discussion. Any valuable feedback should be integrated into your final proposal submission in Week 6.
In this final Week 6, submit a presentation (10-12 slides) that gives your audience the salient features of the change intervention you have planned through text, graphics, charts, and analysis. You have been gathering content for this presentation throughout the course. Present the company, the need for change, and your change intervention proposal. Use the last few slides to evaluate and reflect on your findings. Describe your experience during the project. How did your research help you with your project? What were the strengths and weaknesses of the project? What did you learn about planned organizational change during the project?
Include speaker’s notes of at least 150 words explaining each slide and include a references slide from your bibliography at the end. Use all appropriate citations and APA formatting for your references.
