Ans 1
In 1st reaction oxidation number of carbon atom changes from -1 to +3 and it is an oxidation reaction.
In 2nd reaction, the reaction oxidation number o
f nitrogen atom changes from -3 to -1 and it is a reduction reaction.
Ans 2 A) In the chemical reaction when a solution of 2-butanol is added into an acidic solution of hydrochloric acidic, the chemical product formed in the acidic environment is as follows:
(CH₃CH (OH) CH₂CH₃) + HCl → (CH₃CH (Cl) CH₂CH₃) + H₂O
2-Butanol 2-Chlorobutane
B) In this reaction the chemical product formed in the basic environment is as follows:
(CH₃CH (OH) CH₂CH₃) → (CH₃COCH₂CH₃) (If oxidation takes place)
2-Butanol 2-Butanone
(CH₃CH (OH) CH₂CH₃) → (CH₃CH=CHCH₃) (If dehydration takes place)
2-Butanol 2-Butene
C) The reaction types for both acidic and basic functional groups of the products of each are as below:
SN1 or SN2 Nucleophilic Substitution Reaction in Acidic environment and
Either Oxidation reaction i.e. when changes from 2-Butanol to 2-Butanone or dehydration reaction when change is from 2-Butanol to 2-Butene in basic environment
D) The Oxidation number of the reactive carbon in the chemical reactions is
Before reaction it was -1 as oxidation number of oxygen atom is -2 and hydrogen atom is +1 and even after the reaction it was -1 only as there occurred no change in the oxidation number, as oxidation number of oxygen atom is still -2 and hydrogen atom is still +1 and this is a substitution reaction.
