Topic 2:
Body Cams
Body Cams can have the capability to do facial
recognition by searching criminal databases.
This is what you are to debate:
PROPOSITION: Police body cams should be fitted with
facial recognition software

I have assigned pros side of that topic

This is a team activity. It has 3 team components. Your team MUST do all of them.

  1. Prepare slides arguing your position on the debate topic, as well as a neutral introduction

  2. Create a Kaltura recording of the introduction and your team’s arguments

  3. Your team and its assignment will be posted in Canvas.

  4. Post your slides into the debate discussion forum for others to view

Debate

Posted on Canvas with these instructions you will find a file with several debate topics. Each topic has a PROPOSITION, which is a statement of a position on an issue. Your team will be assigned to one of the debate topics by the instructor. You will also be assigned to a position to take: either PRO or CON.

  • If your team is assigned to thePROposition, you are to argueIN SUPPORTof the proposition.

  • If your team is assigned to theCONposition, you are to argueAGAINSTthe proposition.

For each debate there will be one team assigned to the PRO position, and one team assigned to the CON position. Your team MUST argue your assigned position for your assigned debate, whether or not you personally agree with that position.

Preparing your slides

  • The slides are for your main presentation. Your team should have one set of slides with both an introduction and arguments.

  • Plan on taking between 1-3 minutes per slide during your presentation. (You’ll see this when you rehearse your presentation.)

  • Put your team number/letter, the names of all team members, the proposition, and the team’s assigned position on the first slide.

  • Begin your slides by introducing the topic to the classin a neutral fashion. Do not provide any opinions or arguments – instead present the topic in unbiased terms.

    • Limit the number of introductory slides. Your recording may take only up to 3 minutes for the introduction.

  • Then provide your main slides arguing the pros or cons of the proposition.

    • Limit the number of argument slides. Your recording may take only up to 10 minutes for your argument. Include the bibliography slide in the recording although showing it will not count as time taken for the presentation.

  • Notes:

    • Your argument slides should include the most important ethical considerations for your position.

    • You should refer to clauses in the ACM and/or SEI codes of ethics. For each clause, give the name of the Code and the clause number.

    • Your final slide(s) should be a conclusion that is clear and consistent with your arguments? You may want to label this slide “Conclusion” if this is not clear.

    • Bibliography slides should placed after your conclusion. All facts and graphics should be cited.

    • Slides in your introduction and argument should include in-slide citations (e.g., [1] or superscripts1) that refer to references in the bibliography slides, if you are giving an actual quote.

    • You are not submitting the slides for grading (although you do post them, it is the presentation that is graded), they are ONLY used during the presentation. Therefore, although you do not need to discuss the bibliography in the video, you must show the bibliography slide in the video.

  • Appearance – are your slides well organized, easy to read, without errors, and do they highlight your arguments without being cluttered?

  • Introduction – Did you introduce the topic in a separate section? Is this introduction clear, sufficient, and neutral/unbiased (not pro, not con, not your opinions)?

  • Overall Content – Is the content well presented to a general audience, and thoughtful?

  • Your arguments – are they logical, well-thought through and persuasive?

  • Did your team do research to arrive at the arguments?

    • Is it clear in the slides that you did research?

    • Be sure to show citations to your sources in your bibliography slide(s). You do not need to go over the bibliography in your presentation, but you need to show it.

  • Ethics –Did you refer to ethical theories, codes or otherwise use the tools we use for doing an ethical analysis?

  • Conclusion – Is your final slide(s) a conclusion that is clear and consistent with your arguments? You may want to label this slide “Conclusion” if this is not clear.

  • Delivery – were your speakers well-prepared, speaking clearly and professionally?

  • Did your presentation take 5 to 12 minutes?

grading rubric is attached also please add some speaker notes into it please.
