Open scissors technique: There are many tissues within the fascia that may need to be preserved, such as nerves and blood vessels. When using “sharp dissection”techniques, these structures may accidentally get cut. For this reason, the “blunt dissection” technique is preferred, to preserve important structures. One blunt dissection technique is called an “open scissors” technique, so
named because the dissecting action of the scissors is performed by starting with the scissors closed and then actively opening them. This is exactly the opposite of how most scissors are used.
