MEC509-Coursework 2021 MEC509 COURSEWORK Manufacturing Technology Rationale The assignment will be group based (three students per group) and aimed to provide students with a technical knowledge of the build configuration, operational procedures and application of production high speed milling centres. Coursework Assignment. Submit a detailed technical report on the application of a 5 Axis CNC High Speed Milling Machine and the optimisation of the CNC program. Target length for the report 12 pages including diagrams Assignment should be submitted via the Blackboard System. Include the following:- • MS Word document for the assignment, • ALL CAD files • Identify each student’s contribution to the assignment. • Peer review and provide an agreed document indicating the percentage contribution for each student in the group. Late submission will be penalised in accordance with School guidelines. Submission deadline - Friday 16th. April 2021 Assessment will be based on the following criteria :- (a) For the Haas UMC-750 (https://www.haas.co.uk/machines/umc-750) Machine Tool. Provide a detailed technical description of the machine tool and a 3D-CAD model to demonstrate how three linear axes and two rotary axes are combined to provide 5 Axis machining capability. (20 marks) (b) The attached CAD model 'MEC509 Component.STEP' is to be manufactured on the Haas UMC-750 - 5 axis machine tool. The component is to be manufactured from billet of aluminum. Using the CAD model of the machine tool demonstrate how this component can be manufactured. Provide:- Manufacturing process plan for the CNC milling of this component. Identify the component orientation for each stage of manufacture. The manufacturing strategies required. 3D images to show how the various geometrical features are manufactured. Include tooling, fixtures and set-ups information. (40 marks) (c) Review tooling advances associated with high-speed milling. Include spindle adaptors, tool holding, cutting tool geometry / materials and tooling length and diameter setting / calibration technologies. (30 marks) Report presentation (10 marks)
