Target Group The unit includes identification and confirmation of work requirement, preparation for work, selection, use, servicing, maintenance and storage of tooling and equipment and completion of work finalisation processes, including clean-up and documentation. It applies to those working in all sectors of the automotive industry. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. Conditions and context of the assessments This assessment will be conducted in the CAC classroom or simulated workplace environment in the main campus building at 8-10 Cross Street, Footscray West VIC 3012 or actual designated workplace. Assessment is to occur:  Address of actual designated workplace if different from CAC venue: …………………………………………….. ……………………………………………..  Your Assessor will use the assessment criteria in this document and will provide feedback / comment.  Your Trainer / Assessor will inform you of the due date for this assessment task.  Your Assessor will grade as either S – Satisfactory or NS – Not Satisfactory for the assessment. In all cases your Assessor will provide you with feedback.  Only when all assessment tasks have been graded as S – Satisfactory you will be deemed C – Competent in the final result of the unit of competency; if you do not satisfactorily complete all the assessment tasks you will be deemed NYC – Not Yet Competent. Specific Resources Required  Learner Guide / Handouts / Text Book  CAC Assessment Booklet  Automotive repair workplace or simulated workplace  Workplace instructions  Automotive workshop equipment and tools Re-assessment Students who are unsuccessful at achieving competency at the first attempt will be offered coaching, information and additional time (other needs if required) before a second and possibly a third attempt is made. If the student is not able to satisfactorily complete the assessment after the third attempt the student will be deemed Not Competent and resulted as such. The student may re-enrol in the qualification at a later to date to gain successful completion of the unit/s. For further details refer to CAC Assessment Policy and Procedure available at www.cac.edu.au. Plagiarism CAC considers plagiarism and cheating as serious student misconduct and this may result either in a student’s exclusion from a unit or course or may have to complete a re-assessment depending on individual case. Refer to CAC Plagiarism & Cheating Policy and Procedure available at www.cac.edu.au. The students are advised to give proper referencing for any sources used in their reports. CAC prefers APA style of referencing. Complaints and appeal Where a student wishes to appeal an assessment decision they are required to notify their assessor in the first instance. Where appropriate the assessor may decide to re-assess the student to ensure a fair and equitable decision is gained. The assessor shall complete a written report regarding the re-assessment outlining the reasons why assessment was or was not granted. Refer to CAC Complaints and Appeals Policy & Procedure for details available at www.cac.edu.au Assessors Intervention Assessors are to check that the student is ready for assessment, and defer the assessment if they are not. It is important that assessors do not teach to the assessment but allow students to competence for themselves. Feedback is to be given at the completion of the assessment using the feedback to student. If a student does not meet a standard, the assessor is to sit down with them and assist them in their understanding. Your student record must indicate that you have all required skills and knowledge in completing the task. For each assessment, the assessor is to act as a supervisor and not interfere with the assessment. In the event that the assessment activities will impact on your safety or that of others, the assessment must be stopped immediately. Attaching documents Attached documents are accepted but must be labelled with the following information: Unit Name and Title, Students name, Student ID, Date of Submissions, Student signature. Assessment Instruction Assessment is mapped to the unit and must be completed by the end of each unit. This is a summative assessment, which requires each student to have adequate practice prior to undertaking this assessment The assessment consists of three tasks Assessment Task 1, Assessment Task 2 and Assessment Task 3. Assessment Task 1 is Written questions and answers. Assessment Task 2 is Observation / Demonstration Assessment Task 3 is Report For answers to written questions, reports and projects, you must: • Print clearly in black or blue pen or type it as a word document • Answer each of the key points and /or follow instructions • Assessments written in pencil or are illegible will not be accepted. Ask your assessor if you do not understand any part of the assessment. Whist your assessor cannot tell you the answer, he/she may be able to re-word a question or instruction to assist in a better understanding for you. Assessment Task 1: This is a written assessment that will test your knowledge. This assessment may be completed over the duration of the training session of 8 hours or in one sitting of about 30 minutes. As you learn, practice and review knowledge and skills, you will keep Assessment Task 1 in front of you and answer the questions as the information becomes clear to you. At the beginning of each review session you will be given a few minutes to familiarise yourself with the questions. You will be given extra time at the end of the day to complete this assessment or to clarify facts with the Trainer/Assessor Assessment Task 2: For this assessment, student must demonstrate how the student uses, services and maintains tools and equipment for task provided. Student must demonstrate in relevance to the quality requirements and health and safety procedures of the automotive workplace. This is an ongoing assessment and the student will be observed by the Trainer throughout the course. Necessary feedback should be provided by the trainer at the end of the end of the demonstration. The assessor must follow the session plan aligning on which day to conduct the practical observation. Assessment Task 3: Students must identify the tools and equipment in the pictures given in the assessment task and describe their operation procedure and limitation for what they are been used. Students are allocated with 45 minutes to complete this task. Competency Decision Student must satisfactorily complete each assessment tasks to be Competent (C) in the unit. Student with unsatisfactory completion of any of the assignment tasks will be deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC). Reasonable adjustment

Diagnose and repair Light vehicle suspension systems
1. 5 aspects of personal safety during repair of suspension system
· Protection to the eye, by hit by any objects
· Protection to head
· Apron for protection to bo
dy
· Face shield for face protection
· Shoes to protect from hit of falling objects or tools
2. Tremendous, disconnect, knuckle, spring, injury
(Filled - in the order of blanks )
3. False (To be supported at the axle, beneath the frame)
4. False (Twisting while carrying heavy loads is not recommended)
5. True(It is recommended to turn at the foot)
6. suspensions , rigid, independent, vehicles, front, rear, Axles, road , transferred, wheel, commercial, move, reduces
(Filled in the order of blanks)
7. Sprung mass is that part of the mass that is directly supported by the spring including the mass of the spring itself. Unsprung mass is the mass that is not directly supported by the spring and this will move up and down along with the spring.
8. Unsprung mass will be mainly responsible for the instability of the vehicle, as it will let the vehicle move up and down as per the profile of the bumps and pits the tyre pass through. Lower and lower unsprung mass will keep the vehicle stable.
9. Ride height is the shortest distance between that part of the vehicle in contact with the road (bottom of the tyre in contact with the road) and the lowest level surface of the vehicle (flat surface below the chassis).
10. Suspension, vehicle, height, spring, control, riding, curb, angles, location, excessive, jounce, control, location , type, level, manufacturer’s measured
(Blanks filled in the order they appear)
11. D. All answers are correct
12. Two types , Linear rate and progressive rate types
13. Progressive rate
14. Jounce
15. In linear rate spring systems, the spring force required for compression or the extension remains constant for throughout the spring operations. However in the variable rate systems there will be variation in the spring force requirements in accordance with the extension or the contraction of the spring.
16. Linear rate springs maintains equal distance between the coils and follows Hooks law. Equal distance compression or the extension will obviously need equal forces.
17. Variable rate springs will operate at lower compression rates at unloaded conditions and will take up more compression during high load compressions. This will be facilitated by variable distances between the coils and subsequent spring forces requirement manipulation.
18. Types of springs
1. Compression spring ,
2. gas...
