Role of Nation States in Global Health
    Global health system has achieved many milestones over past few years in controlling infectious diseases and reducing infant mortality. As suggested by Szlezak et al. (2010), global health systems can be defined as group of actors such as organizations, states, individuals or nations whose main aim is to maintain, promote and restore health. They form set of rules that prescribe behavioral role, constraint their activities, and expectation of shape. Nation states play a key role in global governance for health. As suggested by Rottingen et al. (2013), the main role of the nation states includes governance of the health and care services of their states. They provide health protection. They researched and monitored the health system of their states.
They manage the impact their policy actions on national and global level. As mentioned by Murray et al. (2013), the idea of having good health system is base on the foundation of good governance. It is the government, which make the policies, manage the policies and implement them. In context of nation states, good government in states led to the good working at nation wise. Good governance led to the building of good health system first in states then in nation.
As noted by Halpern et al. (2012), some of the initiatives taken by nation states include recruitment and training of staff, control of environmental health and monitoring infectious diseases. For example, all the nation states join the collaborative global vaccination program by World Health Organization to eradicate smallpox from the world. In 1979, smallpox was completely eradicated.
Strengths and Weaknesses of Nation States as Actors in Global Health
    The biggest strength of nation states as actor in global health is that their cooperation and coordination with other states can enforce nations towards legally binding of global health initiatives.
