OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
INDIVIDUAL WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT
Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation is extremely important in any organization.
Different approaches are used to accomplish this task.
One approach is to force compliance through established standards, rigorous inspections, and implementing harsh punishment for failing to meet the established standards.
Another approach is to encourage self-reliance by providing the workplace parties with the information and resources necessary to monitor and enhance safety in the workplace.
What do you consider to be the advantages and disadvantages of each these approaches?
In your opinion, what is the appropriate balance between enforcement and encouragement, and as the HR Manager in an organization, how would you promote and achieve this balance?
