OBJECTIVE

Students are to complete a minimumeight 15-20 page, (excluding title page; interview; references) double spaced paper on a topic that is relevant to an area of crisis intervention (please note that there is no maximum).The objective of thisassignmentis to assist students in practicing a crisis interview and gaining knowledge about a particularcrisissituation.

Referencing:The paper must be written in APA style. You must make reference to at least 2 academic journal articles, and at least two appropriate websites (you will find many good reference sources on the EBSCO site via the library.Please note that references related to question 7 do not count)

-Even though material is put into the writers own words, all ideas that are not their own must be referenced using both in-text citations and a reference page. Failure to reference is considered plagiarism, and the College policy will be applied.

-Any assignment that does not have in-text citations; limited in-text citations or a reference page will be considered plagiarized and will be given a zero under the College policy.

Assignment topic: Possible topics for the paper can be found in your text book.Please be clear about the parameters of your topic.If you cannot find a person in crisis you can make up a scenario and have someone role-play with you.You may not use a case study given in another class.

use a report format with subheadings. Papers that do not have use sub-headings will be returned to the student to be corrected, and the late penalty will be applied.

Your paper must be organized as follows:

1)Interview a person who has or is experiencing a crisis.Write a short description of the person, including all relevant descriptive information.

·Please ensure that you maintain the person’s confidentiality – if you are using a client at your agency you must make sure that you have permission from the agency.

oAcopy of the questions & answers of your interview should be attached in theappendixof your assignment.There are no minimum/ maximum number of questions - marks will be given for the quality of interview questions – i.e., does this reflect a realistic interview, are you asking the questions necessary to find the information you need?

2)Define the crisis your client is experiencing by applying Kanel’s definition to your case study. In addition, please identify the type of crisis your client is experiencing. Explain why you made the choice that you did, with respect to the type of crisis (developmental, or situational). –APA in-text citations are required for all parts of this question.

3)Discuss the meaning of the event as identified by your client. Then, apply the Triage Model to provide an assessment of the severity of the crisis. APA in-text citations are required for all parts of this question.

·Note that if you use the Triage form, it is to be placed as an appendix in your assignment.YouMUSTanswer the question in paragraph form. No marks will be given for any information in the form.

4)Discuss how ethnicity, race, gender, age, class, sexual orientation, or other diversity issues may impact your client and the crisis intervention process. APA in-text citations are required.

5)Provide a 2 -3 page literature review of theresearchon thesocial problemyour “client” is facing and any information that may be helpful to know in planning the assessment and intervention.In your overview please provide the following: the scope of the problem - how large is this social problem; signs or indicators of the problem and the effects or consequences of the problem on the individual (i.e., client) and/or on the family.Any other information you feel is important for social workers to be aware of.APA in-text citations are required.

6)Lay out a comprehensive plan of care (a course of action geared towards a healthy crisis resolution). Be specific in laying out crisis intervention goals, and specifically, what you will do to help the person in crisis.

7)Discusswhy it is important forsocial serviceworkers to have knowledge, skill, and understanding in thecrisisarea that you have chosen to address in your paper. (APA in-text citations required).Since referring clients to other community resources for immediate or follow-up service is such an integral part of crisis intervention, include a list of (3) referral resources for your topic that social workers can use in your community. Be sure to provide a short (2-3 lines) description of the service including their contact information –
please note, web based resources are not acceptable
. There is no need to reference your referrals and they do not count towards your required references.

8)Using the Characteristics of an effective Crisis Worker, discuss what you feel are your personal strengths and weaknesses with respect to being a professional crisis intervention worker. APA in-text citations are required
