Nurses are required to have sound theoretical knowledge, and integrate theory to practice through assessment and provision of safe, competent, culturally appropriate, evidence-based care (Lubbe & Roets, 2014) For this assignment: You are required to write a 1500 word essay, in response to the following case study: Case Study: Mrs Rosa Turay is a 88 yr old resident in Sunrise Nursing home. She is a widow but has a daughter and three grandchildren who visit once a week. Mrs Turay immigrated from Nigeria with her husband and family 10 years ago but only speaks broken English. She is overweight for her height but can usually mobilise with a walking frame. Over the last few days she has had worsening flu-like symptoms and now has a productive cough, lack of energy and does not feel like eating. The doctor has now diagnosed her as having Influenza and associated chest infection.

In compiling your essay, you must address the following criteria 1. Discuss Influenza,  modes of spread and risks in relation to the elderly 2. Discuss infection control precautions needed in a nursing home setting and why these are necessary 3. Discuss other  risk assessments and nursing cares needed, including safety and cultural aspects for this patient 4. Discuss other health team involvement that may be needed and provide rationale 5.
