For health professionals to be effective agents in realising this vision they are required to be culturally safe practitioners, who are literate in the dynamics of race and racism and their impacts on well-being. Furthermore, health professionals must be knowledgeable of the historical and political influences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ well-being. This reflective assignment requires you to first demonstrate your understanding of the key concepts associated with cultural safety, and then apply them to context of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ health and well-being. In this assessment you will be required to utilise the 5Rs Reflection Framework to discuss changes in your thoughts and feelings throughout the initial learning process of NSB202. Furthermore, discuss the application of culturally safety to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ health and well-being context from a profession and individual perspective. Learning outcomes assessed: 1. Apply the principles of cultural safety to the context of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders’ health and well-being to analyse and advance your current position on the continuum of cultural safety. 2. Describe historical, social, and political issues and how they inform current experiences of health and well-being, in order to realise their significance as determinants of current health and well-being of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders. 3. Discover the everyday experiences of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders that inform their health care and apply this knowledge to facilitate effective partnerships with individuals, families, and communities. What you need to do: Respond to the follow assessment tasks: Step 1 Demonstrate your understanding of the following concepts: a) Compare and contrast personal racism and systemic/institutional racism (200 words). b) Briefly discuss the power dynamics associated with the whiteness of nursing (100 words). c) Compare and contrast cultural safety and cultural awareness training (200 words). Step 3 (400 words) Discuss historical (including political) factors that contributed to institutional racism and white privilege, particularly in regards to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ access to health care, education and employment. In terms of understanding the Personal Racism is referred to individuals (or small groups of individuals) have any biased or any intentional prejudice along with h
aving a personal attitude towards the discriminatory or similar behavior (Harrison, 2016). Personal racism is also defined as defining the stereotyping individuals which is defined on the basis of the given racial differences along with purposely using the derogatory names along with the key references or tagging them in a derogatory manner. All this along with the discriminatory treatment upon which one can also associate it with the interpersonal contacts, and an inculcation of the threats and acts towards the violence towards the specific members of a minority group which can work towards the racially inferior. It is symbolically also used in a contextual manner of using such innocent words, phrases, which discriminates the minority groups (and others) such as constantly using the word of “chink” or maybe just using the word black to address a specific type of people. This is often used in a racial personal innocent usage. The other is the institutional racism which is practicing and discriminating on the basis of the political, economic towards the racial or ethnic group in order to identify disadvantage in terms of the ethnic majority.
b) Briefly discuss the power dynamics associated with the whiteness of nursing (100 words).
The power dynamics address the status quo of the whiteness privileges and the racial injustice which can distinguish in terms of the nursing education. It is noticed that the academic nursing or the anti-racism or antiracist education needs to be monitored and evaluated in order to overcome the Cultural Challenges faced in terms of the Whiteness of Nursing. It has been seen that white has often used the distinguishing color of black and white to mark and refer to people while talking; they actually do not mean to discriminate through behavior. To address it one needs to identify the participation rates of the Aboriginal registered nurses which are working towards the Australian health care workforce.
c) Compare and contrast cultural safety and cultural awareness training (200 words).
The cultural safety and the cultural awareness training is working towards to mark the Aboriginal nurses in order to explore the opportunity in terms of the whiteness of nursing. It has specific educational criteria. It is related to the systems along with the focus of the processes which can facilitate towards the adjudication and usage of the applications from the training providers in terms of providing a fair education and training to all the cultural people (Hocking, 2012). The main focus is to improve the health of the Aboriginal Australians and needs to remain equivalent in terms of other cultural people. Apart from improving the participation rates of Aboriginal registered nurses which need to work alongside with the other cultural people working in the Australian workforce. As of now, Aboriginal nurses are small in proportion to another workforce hence the main strategy is to recruitment and retention strategies which can help in improving the status of the Aboriginal registered nurses. This would only help Australia's mainstream healthcare system and help in working towards the ‘whiteness of nursing'. The cultural safety is to protect the Aboriginal culture of the nurses and create a competitive training to promote their status in the Australian workforce.

During my course and findings, I didn't know about the Aboriginal population and their denied rights. Even in the nursing and the healthcare field, there has been partial and biased approach while treating the Indigenous people (Kitson, 2010).
