She was referred to treatment by a physician who was concerned about her use of amphet-amines. She entered a combination inpatient/outpatient treatment and completed it about three weeks ago. She has not attended any self-help groups in her community, even though she was given referrals, because she did not want to bring further shame to her family. In her intake session, Maryanne reports a pattern of immersing herself in different addictive behaviors during her life. For example, for a time, she was involved with alcohol, then sex, then religion, then drugs, each in an addictive manner that appeared serial in nature. Process in small groups two questions:


1. How would you work with other professionals if in addition to her substance abuse, you believed she was struggling with depression? Anxiety? PTSD? Violent tendencies? Gambling? Personality Disorder?
