Note: This template draws directly on Elements 1, 2, and 3 as described under “Discussion Posting Guidelines” in the Syllabus and the “Integrated Essay Discussion Posting and Response Rubric.” (See the Rubrics area on the Course Home page for the Integrated Essay Discussion Posting and Response Rubric.)
The following information is provided to help you produce a quality post in response to the Integrated Essay Discussion requirements.
The Integrated Essay (IE) Discussions can be complex. In your post, you must respond to ALL REQUIREMENTS of the discussion as they are laid out in the Discussion. Read and analyze the discussion requirements carefully. If you are unsure of what is required, please post your question(s) in the “Ask the Instructor” area.
Your IE Post will have the following headings:
- Introduction
- Description of Theories/Core Concepts
- Analysis/Explanation/Discussion
- Conclusion
- Extending the Conversation
- References
Note:Headings are left justified and are on a line by themselves, followed by the appropriate content.
Introduction:States the purpose of the IE and preview the points to be covered in the IE. The language of the introduction is terse and to the point.
Note:Previews are “content free;” they do NOT provide any summary of content, as a synopsis would.
Description of Theories/Core Concepts:Provides a scholarly description of the theory/theories/core concepts for the week that are referenced by the discussion requirements.
Note:Support your claims/statements with citations of references from the course; you are encouraged to integrate other articles and resources where appropriate. Be sure to address the core concepts and arguments of the readings in their relevant context; use the language of the theories/concepts; paraphrase your sources. Use only limited quotations; use synthesis and summary. Include using the language of the theories/concepts, and cite the source from the course resources/reading materials.
Analysis/Explanation/Discussion:Respond to ALL requirements stated in the Discussion (see “With these thoughts in mind” in the Discussion). Methodically apply the theories/core concepts in your analysis. Use compare/contrast, synthesis, and integration to make your points in your response.
