Part II: Written Portion/Summary Response (50% of your grade)

Write a summary response. Follow the outline below when writing your summary response. You are not writing a 5 paragraph essay, this is a 2 paragraph summary response.

Paragraph 1- summary of the text: (include main points, use your own words, indicate source). In the summary, include the following:

1. Title of the text/Author




2. State Topic/Purpose




3. Main points- use your own words and indicate the source

Paragraph 2- short analysis of the story. In this paragraph give a short analysis of your interpretation of the story. Include a direct quote from the story to support your analysis/interpretation. See the student sample.

*Things to remember when writing your summary response-

• The summary should be written and submitted in a Word doc in Microsoft.




• Avoid introducing your ideas by stating "I think" or "in my opinion.




• Always introduce the work. Do not assume that because your reader knows what you are writing about, you do not need to mention the work's title, author.




• Do not forget to document in MLA format. (See Review Module for more notes)**
