They do it here in large parcels. I don’t think it really effects the average person, because they are typically buying a few hundred acres and up for residential developments. “The investors snapped up land on the cheap in bankruptcy proceedings, from cash-strapped home developers and banks that seized the properties after foreclosing on them when builders ran out of money.” (Wachtel, 2012) The developers are treating the sites as an investment, trying to buy when the market is down and sale when the market is high. “Now they are re-selling the land, often for returns of more than 20 percent on their initial investment, in the latest sign of a modest recovery in the U.S. housing market. Other investors, meanwhile, are looking to partner with homebuilders to develop the tracts.” (Wachtel, 2012) Investor’s do this all the time, I would not see where land is any different. The sellers would rather sell them in one large parcel than have to subdivide them and deal with selling them individually.
