It represents the success of the technological era. Facebook as a business communication tool has the potential to influence people for buying products and services. Characteristics of Facebook as a business communication The first one is customised Facebook ads.The challenge presented by most of the advertising tools is the uncertainty to reach the target market. Facebook ads provide the facility of customisation to choose the location to broadcast the advertisement (Tran, 2017). The challenge is to find out the right location, age group, gender, and other demographic factors to customise the advertisements effectively. It is possible to overcome it if some research is done by the marketers to find out whether the target market uses the platform of Facebook or not. It is difficult to achieve with newspapers, emails or telephones. The second characteristic of Facebook is the creation of company or brand profile. It helps in direct communication with the people interested in the product (Saransomrurtai, 2011). The challenge presented by Facebook is to promote the profile or company page in the manner to be noticed by the target market or the potential customers. Informing about new products and services using company profile on Facebook is easier and it does not irritate the customers which are the risk if they are informed telephonically or on email. The third characteristic of Facebook is exploring friend’s profiles. It helps in communicating and reaching the friends and acquaintances of existing and potential customers (Raacke and Bonds-Raacke, 2008). It is difficult to expand customer base through face-to-face communication even after taking references. The challenge is to make advertisements effectively. Conclusion Out of multiple characteristics of Facebook, some are extremely useful in effective business communication for the employees and organisations to achieve their targets. Facebook come across many challenges such as breach of the trust of customers, spread of fake news on social media platforms, and insecurity of the data uploaded etc. At the same time implementation of new measures in its system and software, proved it as a better option than other communication tools such as F2F meetings, emails and telephones services.
