Soil is a key element for agriculture and growth of plants and crops. Soil is the best natural resource available to us in the earth to grow crops as it contains the desired nutrients and the minerals needed for agriculture. The time needed for soil formation is dependent on the climatic conditions and the latitude of the place. It also depends on the availability of moisture. Generally, it takes close to 400 years to form a centimetre of soil layer. Arid soils lack moisture and also lacks important nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium which is necessary for agriculture and plant growth. (USEPA,2021)
