REVIEWING THE ISSUES AND PROBLEMS IN A PREVIOUSLY FAILED IT PROJECT
Abstract
GOV.UK project of UK counts on an unconventional integrated method for digital verification of identity. It provides a unique model to prove identity of a citizen online. It was endorsed by the European Union in 2016 and was applicable since 2018. Despite of all the promises and expectations, the project failed to achieve its target by 2020 of 25 million. The lack of responsibility by the project leaders has resulted into the receiving dearth of popularity amongst the users.

Introduction
‘Government Digital Strategy’ was issued by the UK government in 2013. One of the major points of the strategy was to shift all the public services into a digital functioning where electronic or digital transactions would be the default mode of agreement between the public and the members. The assurance of identity appeared to be a response towards the failed attempt of introducing identity cards for the citizens previously. In recent years, there has been an appearance of a trend in eGovernment initiatives in Europe (Stalla-Bourdillon, Pearce & Tsakalakis, 2018).
It includes unfolding of different schemes related to electric identity, which permits people to control and validate their identities in concurrence with using public services online. Hence, the UK Government has been observed to develop its very own scheme of electronic identification of citizens called as Gov.UK Verify. The service at the time of its launch claimed to assist a simpler, safer, secured and faster approach of gaining services of the government.
