Patriarchy
    Patriarchy     2018
Introduction
Sexism and inequality has always been a buzzing issue globally but despite all scrupulous efforts the achievement in this regard remains questionable as the problem continues to persist. Patriarchy forms the overarching and hegemonic structure of the society and is known to pervade most of the struc
tures of the society. The patriarchy seems a modern way to explain the sexism in the present day society, and despite the general agreement that all sexes are equal people still continue to indicate the masculine superiority by their acts. Gender inequality has been a grave issue of discussion, the earlier societies that was based on the gender inequality visualized and accepted male dominance without resistance.
Thesis Statement
The paper analyzes the prevalence of patriarchy and sexism and how it has been segregating the society as the gender inequality continues to remain the among the significant problems of the world.
The Issue
The ancient societies were based on the system of gender inequality and the male dominance continued to prevail. Patriarchy used to be the basis of inequality and it still continues to remain the root cause of gender discrimination. According to Cynthia Enole, “Patriarchy is everyday sexism, but it is more than sexism, it embraces misogyny but relies on more than misogyny” (Enole). According to her Patriarchy continues to produce more gender inequality and its outcome is known to run deeper than the gender inequality (Enole). Patriarchal ideas are known to include both the beliefs as well as values, the belief is about understanding that the sex is determined at birth and maleness is intrinsically rational while femaleness is emotional. The patriarchal values are supported by patriarchal belief system and thus the values make the foundation of the discussion. The patriarchal values thus lead to igniting the deepest conflicts among the people as they assign more worth to the reason than to the emotion.
Gender inequality is prevalent everywhere and is most prominent in the work organizations so much so that the workplaces are sometimes referred as inhospitable places for the women. The workplaces negatively affect the women in terms of opportunities, earnings and growth (S.Stamarski). These things are so prevalent that one can still see the dearth of women leadership almost everywhere. Thus the workplace discrimination adds to low socio-economic status of the women and such status of the women is largely attributed to Human Resource (HR) decision making and their policies. It has been observed that the employees often face personal discrimination on the basis of the decisions made and told by the HR (S.Stamarski). It is evident that the organizational structure, policies, procedures and practices are all interconnected and may together contribute towards the discrimination.
The issue of gender inequality continues to remain the issue of social problem as the patriarchal societal perspective that exists from times immemorial considers women to be inferior of men. The societal role of the women has been institutionalized and the same has resulted in the biased treatment at the workplace. Due to prevalence of patriarchy the Gender inequality has been unfair and culturally accepted norm that has created cognitive biasness of categorization of the women and this situation is reinforced through patriarchy (Carbajal).
