Purpose of assessment This assessment will develop your skills and knowledge required to develop strategic plans for sustainability related improvements. B. What you are required to do For this assessment, you are required to complete 3 tasks: · Task A – Demonstrate knowledge of strategic sustainability plans · Task B – Create a strategic sustainability plan · Task C – Prepare a project action plan Task B & C of this assessment require you to use the provided case study information relating to the fictional company Meyer & Co. C. Competencies being assessed Elements To achieve competency in this unit you must demonstrate your ability to: 1. Determine current sustainability status of the organisation 2. Identify priority areas for improvement 3. Establish project team 4. Design potential improvement 5. Develop strategic plan Performance Evidence There must be evidence you have completed the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, and: · Developed at least 1 strategic sustainability plan to improve one or more of the following: · Products · Processes · Employee, health, safety and environment (HSE) or amenity · Impact on the community · Impact on the environment · Energy use · Greenhouse gas reduction · Efficiency and profit · Waste management · Emergency and incident response · Facility or building design and management Knowledge Evidence You must demonstrate knowledge of: · Strategic directions of the organisation · Strategic planning tools, including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT) analysis · Strategic approvals for implementation · Sustainability status of organisation · Sustainability indicators · Methods of identifying sustainability improvements · Risk analysis · Cost-benefit analysis · Planning principles · Evaluation methods · AS/NZS ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems or its authorised replacement · Sustainability codes, schemes, legislation and regulation For further information on the competencies of this unit, please refer to: https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/MSS015026 D. Task B - Create a strategic sustainability plan Instructions You are to develop a strategic sustainability plan to improve one or more of the following areas of focus: · Products · Processes · Employee, health, safety and environment (HSE) or amenity · Impact on the community · Impact on the environment · Energy use · Greenhouse gas reduction · Efficiency and profit · Waste management · Emergency and incident response · Facility or building design and management Read the case study on Meyer & Co provided in the “2 – Case study” folder provided on Moodle. Then answer the questions below. B1. Use the structure outlined below develop a strategic sustainability plan for Meyer & Co: 1. Executive Summary - This section summarises each of the other sections of the plan. 2. Company Mission Statement – Describe the mission of the company 3. SWOT Analysis - Conduct a SWOT analysis to determine the best opportunities to pursue to achieve growth. 4. Strategic areas of focus 5. Risk management 6. Team 7. Measuring/ indicators 8. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) - Record the KPIs you will track for each suggestion. Create your plan using of the “Strategic Sustainability Plan Template” document provided on Moodle. Save the document as “Strategic Sustainability Plan – Your Name”, replacing “Your Name” with your first and last names. Ensure you submit your strategic sustainability plan as part of your assessment. Refer to the case study information document for details regarding the organisation Meyer & Co. Refer to the learner guide section “5E. Write a plan to guide the proposal to sanction” for further information in writhing the strategic plan. Refer to the example strategic sustainability plan : “Strategic Plan for Sustainability – University of Regina” provided on Moodle for further guidance. Answer in 400-800 words. C. Task C - Prepare a project action plan Instructions Following on from Task B, you are now to prepare an action plan for your suggestions for major improvement / areas of focus. Ensure you have read the case study on Meyer & Co provided in the “2 – Case study” folder provided on Moodle. Then answer the questions below. C1. Prepare a project action plan for one of the short-listed suggestions/ areas of focus in Meyer & Co’s strategic sustainability plan, as developed as part of the previous question (Task B, Question B1).
