Mr. Jones is frail and has early cataracts. He is not strong enough to prepare his medications every day. Mrs. Jones must be taught how to administer her husband’s medicines. In planning teaching activities for this couple, you notice that Mrs. Jones watches television while you are discussing times to return to her home to visit. You also notice that she is easily distracted and seems preoccupied when you are discussing Mr. Jones medications with her. She sometimes responds correctly to your questions, but more often she seems confused and lost if there are more than two to three words in your directions. The television playing in the background makes your instructions difficult for her to understand. At times, she stares at her reflection in the window of the living room. Once, you noticed her waving to her reflection. You are concerned that Mrs. Jones may not be the best person to learn Mr. Jones drug regimen. What other problems might Mrs. Jones have with learning new information?
