Hello Dr. McCoy and Class,
Scholarly inquiry is essential to a student’s education as it entails a systematic research approach into student learning, Customarily guided, it is evidence-based, peer-reviewed, and publicly shared. Participants will arrive with an idea and a possible question for a research project. Research is a systematic inquiry that uses disciplined methods to answer questions and solve problems; the goal is to develop, refine, and expand a body of knowledge. (Radulescu, 2012).
My topic is “Domestic Violence and Mental Health.” The skills and knowledge I have developed or enhanced in this course in the completion of my doctoral research project would be self-confidence, looking as research as a positive and how different areas of research accents my discussion. I learned patients; I had a much harder time gathering information for the assignment of locating quantitative research as in my area, I could not find a quantitative research article without it being combined with qualitative or mixed methodology research. It opened my eyes and acknowledgment the research methodology preferred for my area of interest is a qualitative study. I learned about gray literature; how it is particularly important as a way of distributing scientific and technical and public policy and practice information, an essential source of data due to the distinctiveness of the matter that gets published. (Yasin, 2020).
I was aware and familiar with the American Psychological Association (APA) code of conduct and ethical guidelines from by undergraduate and graduate years as well as in my career, thus, accustomed to its purpose and its importance. I appreciated looking back into the utilized sources and gaining a better comprehension as to its mission, interaction, and benefits. The process of gathering and investigating research has opened my eyes and expanded my understanding as to what to look for and how the information will benefit and add to my paper.
What I need to develop is not to think too much and make things harder than they need to be. I am grateful for the positive and helpful support and feedback from my professor and peers. The way the sections are broken down and discussed has provided me with more certainty and guidance to move forward.

Hi Dr. McCoy and Class,
The course, Scholarly Argument, has been very beneficial. Most of the course has served as a much-needed refresher though valuable information has also been learned as well. Scholarly inquiry can be a lengthy but necessary process. To accurately cover a topic, one (especially a doctoral student) must understand and conduct scholarly inquiry.
The topics covered that served as refreshers are as follows. The first topic that served as a refresher was on narrowing and developing a research question. Another topic that served as a refresher was qualitative research methods. In addition to qualitative research methods, quantitative research methods served as a refresher. Another topic that served as a refresher was identifying and finding qualitative and quantitative research in articles. Lastly, identifying scholarly and popular sources and when it is appropriate to use each served as refreshers. I have been attending Ashford University since 2015, and several courses throughout the years have covered these topics keeping these topics fresh in my mind.
On the other hand, although I already know how to identify and use scholarly and popular sources, I was unaware of grey literature. I am not sure if I have covered grey literature throughout the years, and I just forgot (not likely), or if it is an entirely new topic to me. Either way, learning about and how to use grey literature is extremely important, as I did not know that it is acceptable to use in scholarly writing as scholarly sources. I am a psychology major, making organizations and associations such as the American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatry Association, and The Center for Disease Control and Prevention extremely important sources that support most topics I have and will cover before my education is complete.
Additionally, I would like to note that the way the course is set up, each week covering portions of the final assignment, has taken a lot of the stress out of completing the final assignment. The peer and instructor feedback has eliminated most of the guessing game from the process of completing the final assignment. I believe courses set up this way, results in a better understanding of the topics covered in a course, which will result in the students making better grades but will also make students more knowledgeable in their fields.

Marcus so as you may guess my discussion board responses this week are all about what you learned during this course. So… let me ask you this fun question… thinking about your research tool box… what tools do you now have in your research tool box that you did not have before you started this course?
