As we learned this week, APA Style provides a set of guidelines for writing with integrity. In this assignment, we'll practice following APA guidelines for citing a source of information.
First, carefully read the following article, which is available through the NLU Library's electronic article databases (we'll learn more about these databases next week): Top 10 reasons students plagiarize & what teachers can do about it.From this linked page, you can click "PDF Full Text" on the left to view and read the full article.
Then, create a new document in your word processor of choice. Format the document according toAPA formatting guidelines, paying special attention to the guidelines for title pages, margins, fonts, and page numbers that were provided earlier in this module.
In your document, write a 2-3 page response that addresses the following question about the article:
- This article explores some reasons why students might plagiarize and what instructors can do to address these issues. Choose at least two of the reasons discussed in the article and describe them in detail. To what extent do you agree with the author's point of view on those two possible reasons for student plagiarism? What do you think is the responsibility of the student and the professor in each situation? What specific steps can each do to help ensure that the student is approaching their work with integrity?
Support your ideas with evidence from the provided article as well as any relevant course readings or personal experiences you may have.. Remember what we learned this week about the scholarly conversation. You can reference the author's ideas, and can also build on them and make connections of your own--just be sure to cite your sources, even if you paraphrase!
Your 2-3 page response should include at least two quotes or paraphrased sections from the article and should be cited appropriately with in-text citations. If you reference any additional course readings or other materials, these should be cited with APA style citations as well.
After writing your response, use the page break feature in your word processor to start a References list on a new page at the end of the document. Cite the article and any other references you use here with full reference list citations, following APA guidelines for formatting the page and the citation. Hint: This article's citation should follow similar formatting guidelines to that of a scholarly or peer-reviewed article published in a journal.
