Introduction
One of the most effective tools that may be required in order to improve self-abilities and thinking can be self-reflection. Self-reflection is basically an analysis of the activities or events that may be performed or observed by an individual. Critical analysis of those events or activities can help to realise the faults, flaws, shortcomings, weaknesses and strengths associated with the moment. Self-reflection can further be considered as thinking inculcated with emotions, which further can help to gain insights in order to change the behavior.
Moreover, it can also help to analyse the other perspectives, which can be implied in order to achieve success in a task that may have failed. This assignment is also based upon the reflective thinking with respect to the activities and learnings performed with in this trimester. Further, this self-reflection is based upon the prior prepared journal, which could further allow me to analyse my weaknesses and strengths.
Activities and Events Performed
This trimester at Torrens University was a very pleasant as well as new experience for me. This is majorly because being an international student I had to adapt to a number of things. Learning during this trimester was a lot different, complex as well as a new experience for me.
There were a several new topics as well modules that I learnt and some of them were related to old learnings however, most of them were new concept for me because I had never studied them.
Module 1 - Introduction to Information Systems
Module was one of the new learnings that I did within this trimester. This module allowed me to learn about the information systems around us; and the importance they play within the business world. Further, this module made me familiarise with the concept of introduction of technology wit in business world. This is majorly because till now is used to think that business and technology have no such connection however, now after this module I leant that business can be made to reach the heights of success if technology is implied efficiently.
Further, in order to make the learning more better and practical this module had numerous examples from the business world that allowed me to realise that Information Systems (IS) have the ability to change the course of business. Moreover, the efficiency with, which these systems can store, analyse and present data, was remarkable and fascinating for me.
However, the concept was new and interesting it was difficult for me to maintain pace with the ongoing speed of the professor. Along with this, I was facing some difficulties with the process of using the various tools of IS. Although the professor tried the level best to make us understand, I had some difficulties and queries, which is resolved later with the professor.
Further, with the introduction to various IS, in business, I was able to identify that decisions with in an organisation varies in magnitude and scope. Application of IS to a business can enable it to inculcate such decision-making that facilitates business success (Ricci, Rokach & Shapira, 2015). Along with this, these IS systems also benefits business indirectly such as decision-making committee may not be needed if the IS system can be implied by the organisation efficiently.
Moreover, these systems also enable to track the implementation of these systems in business. Earlier, I used think that implementation of these IS systems with in a business may be a time consuming as well as capital intensive. After this module, I was able to identify that IS systems have the ability to improve the business efficiency. According to the suggestions of DeLone and McLean (2016), this can be possible at a minimal investment by allowing the improvement in decision making of the organisation. Lastly, through this process this sector has the ability to generate enormous jobs for digitally skilled individuals and widens the horizons for us.
Module 2 - Data, Information & Knowledge
Module 2 brought some new insights for me regarding the concepts of data, information and knowledge. Although, before learning this module I was very much aware of these three terms however, after learning and analysing this module I realised that my prior learnings and concepts were mostly of primary level.
This module allowed me to realise that IT industry produces a number of data, which further is stored using specific tools; however, a critical analysis of the nature of data stored within the drives can help to conquer the market. The Ackoff’s hierarchy pyramid, which may also be known as DIKW pyramid, allowed me to understand the intertwined relationship between data, knowledge and information. Data, wisdom and information together are the concepts that can help to gain and gather knowledge of a specific market or a system.
Further, I consider this as an essential requirement in order to gain a hold over market and industry irrespective of the nature of industry. I also realised that this interconnected and intertwined concept could be used to manage staff members and gain efficient work from them. Based upon the data and information, knowledge can be improved and this can be used as one of the most effective tool and concept to incentivise that staff and share knowledge (Kasemsap, (2015).
One of the major facts that I learnt from this module is that data, information and knowledge forms the basic foundation of any information management or knowledge management system, where knowledge is an internal phenomena while data and information are external phenomena. In other words, data and information can be obtained from numerous sources however, an efficient analysis of both these things...
