Modern shopping practices raise a further question: would a self-service checkout in
a supermarket alter the traditional analysis? Is this position similar to an ordinary vending
machine? It would seem that the traditional position must remain since it is the customer
who is making the offer when presenting the goods to the self-service checkout and it is the
machine that is accepting the customer’s offer on behalf of the supermarket.
