MIS603_Assessment_1 B_Brief_Case Study_Module 4.2 Page 1 of 6 Task Summary You are required to research and write a 2500-word individual report in response to a case scenario. This assessment offers you an opportunity to apply the knowledge you gained about microservices architecture in Part A. You are required to use the case as context to write a report for both business and IT stakeholders explaining the advantages and disadvantages of microservices architecture and the benefits it can offer an organisation. You will need to demonstrate your ability to identify business priorities and relate relevant advantages to complex business needs through the strategy you recommend. Context This assessment gives you an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of microservices architecture and your capability to explain complex technology concepts in terms that a non-IT ASSESSMENT 1 PART B BRIEF Subject Code and Title MIS603 – Microservices Architecture Assessment Microservices Case Study - Part B Individual/Group Individual Length 2500 words (+/- 10%) Learning Outcomes The Subject Learning Outcomes demonstrated by successful completion of the task below include: a) Undertake research to demonstrate an understanding of microservices and how they contribute to business processes. b) Discuss core concepts of microservices architecture within a context of a business case study and summarise the advantages and disadvantages of adopting microservices architecture. c) Communicate the benefits of microservices architecture to a diverse stakeholder audience by addressing complex business needs and aligning strategies to business priorities defined by changing business requirements. This prepares you professionally for several roles that ‘build a bridge’ between IT and business leaders. Task Instructions 1. Carefully read the attached Assessment 1 Part B Case Scenario to understand the concepts being discussed in the case. 2. Review your subject notes to establish the relevant area of investigation that applies to the case. Re-read any relevant readings that have been recommended in the case area in modules. Perform additional research in the area of investigation and select 10 additional sources that will add value to your report in the relevant area of investigation. 3. Plan how you will structure your ideas for your report and write a report plan before you start writing. 4. The report should consist of the following structure: A title page with subject code and name, assignment title, student’s name, student number, and lecturer’s name. The introduction (250–300 words) that will also serve as your statement of purpose for the report—this means that you will tell the reader what you are going to cover in your report. You will need to inform the reader of: a. Your area of research and its context b. The key concepts you will be addressing c. What the reader can expect to find in the body of the report The body of the report (1900–2000 words) will need to respond to the specific requirements of the case study. It is advised that you use questions posed in the case study to assist you in structuring the report by means of subheadings in the body of the report. The conclusion (250–300 words) will summarise any findings or recommendations that the report puts forward regarding the concepts covered in the report. 5. Format of the report The report should use font Arial or Calibri 11 point, be line spaced at 1.5 for ease of reading, and have page numbers on the bottom of each page. If diagrams or tables are used, due attention should be given to pagination to avoid loss of meaning and continuity by unnecessarily splitting information over two pages. Diagrams must carry the appropriate captioning. 6. Referencing There are requirements for referencing this report using APA referencing style. It is expected that you reference any lecture notes used and 10 additional sources in the relevant subject area based on readings and further research. It is essential that you use the appropriate APA style for citing and referencing research. Please see more information on referencing here: http://library.laureate.net.au/research_skills/referencing http://library.laureate.net.au/research_skills/referencing MIS603_Assessment_1 B_Brief_Case Study_Module 4.2 Page 3 of 6 7. You are strongly advised to read the rubric, which is an evaluation guide with criteria for grading the assignment—this will give you a clear picture of what a successful report looks like. Introduction
This report is all about the organization which wants to incorporate microservice architecture for their operations. It is a wealth management private limited company which has strong base of the investment customers, and these customers have trust in their investment portfolios. It behaves like the platform which can easily manage the accounts and investments of the customers. The platform was built in 2000s and it was the cutting edge at that time.
The platform was
created in the monolithic form and helped the customers and business and fulfil the requirements properly. As the time changed there was introduction of cloud solution which was able to provide better agility and flexibility. There are several factors which made it very clear for the executive leadership team that they need to review the whole strategy of the technology.
Many competitors changed their platform digital and able to meet the market expectations easily. The was need of having regulatory reform in the wealth management area so that they can have new changes in the products managed by Greer John. It is now able to invest in the digital strategy so that it can allow them to transform old platform steadily and incrementally into the cloud enable solution. In this report we will discuss about the microservices and its benefits. It has definition of microservices architecture, benefits, challenges, and the process for whole transmission. It has discussion about the DevOps.
Microservices Architecture
The micro service architecture has collection of different autonomous and small services. Each of the service behaves like it is self-contained and it is able to implement single business capability inside the bounded context. The bounded context can be defined as natural division which is present in the business, and it is able to provide explicit boundary inside which the model is present. The micro services are independent, small and loosely coupled purposes.
The small team of the developers is able to write and maintain single service. Each of the service will have separate code base and it will be managed by the small development team. The services will be able to diploid independently and the team is able to Update the current service without reading application. The services will be responsible for persisting their own state or the data for job it will happen from the traditional in which it separates there for handling bins the services will be able to communicate with the help of define API and interim and data for each of the service will be kept hidden from other services. It helps to polyglot programming. The services do not have to share same libraries frameworks or the technologies.
Benefits
The micro services allow us to use different benefits which are not present in traditional approach. It helps us to achieve the agility. The micro services are diploid independently hence it becomes easier to manage the future releases and the bug fixes. We can easily update the service without redeploying the whole application and rollback the update if something goes wrong easily. There are many traditional applications in which if the bug is found then it needs to block the whole release. New features have to wait until the bug is fixed and it will be their integrated, tested and then at last published.
With the help of micro service, we can easily have small and focused teams. The micro service should have small size so that the single feature team is able to build, test and deploy it easily. The small team size makes it easier for promoting the greater agility. Generally, the large teams are less productive because the communication is slower, and management overhead goes up which diminishes the agility.
In the monolithic application it has the tendency off overtime for code dependencies and it became tangled. If we have to add a new feature, then it asks to touch code in different places. The micro service architecture reduces the dependencies, and it does not share code or the data stores. It makes it easier to add new features in the current application.
We can have mix of the technologies in the micro service architecture. Teams are able to pick the technology which is best fit for their service or use that mix of technology stacks as per the requirement. If the individual micro service is not available, then it will not disturb the whole application as long as any of the upstream micro services are designed for handling faults correctly.
The services can be scaled independently with the help of micro service architecture. It will allow us to scale out the subsystem which needs more resources without scaling out the whole application. It will become easier to perform the schema update because only a single service will be effect. If we use monolithic application, then the...
