MIS102_Assessment 3 Portfolio Page 1 of 4 Task Summary Create a network disaster recovery plan (portfolio) of no more than 1500 words along with a full network topology diagram. This portfolio should highlight the competencies you have gained in data and networking through the completion of Modules 1 – 6. Context The aim of this assessment is to demonstrate your proficiency in data and networking. In doing so, you will design a network disaster recovery plan for a company in Australia to demonstrate your proficiency with network design. Task Instructions 1. Create a network disaster recovery plan (portfolio) along with a full network topology diagram for a company situated in Australia. Note: This Company has other branches worldwide and this should be considered when creating the network disaster recovery plan. 2. Network disaster recovery plan (portfolio) Write a network disaster recovery plan using no more than 1500 words. The Portfolio should include the following: ASSESSMENT 3 BRIEF Subject Code and Title MIS102 Data and Networking Assessment Portfolio Individual/Group Individual Length 1500 words Learning Outcomes The Subject Learning Outcomes demonstrated by successful completion of the task below include: c) Collaboratively design a management action plan for computational and network administration. d) Demonstrate proficiency with network design alternatives Submission Due by 11:55pm AEST Sunday end of Module 6.2 (Week 12) Weighting 35% Total Marks 100 marks MIS102_Assessment 3 Portfolio Page 2 of 4  An introductory section that highlights the importance of having a recovery plan.  What steps should the company take if: o There is a sudden internet outage? o A malware (e.g. a virus) has infected the computers in the company network? o There is no local area network for the entire company? Is there a way to diagnose if this is a hardware failure? What communication protocol stack might be affected? o Only a part of the company loses internet connection? o There is a power outage? o There is a password security breach?  Are there precautions and post-planning to ensure that the company will not repeat the same network disaster? • Anticipate the likely questions about the network design that will be raised by the client (Please note that this may include both technical and non-technical staff of the organisation). 3. Network topology diagram  Create a full network topology diagram that could ensure the business continuity.  The diagrams need to be your own work and needs to be developed using Visio or any other appropriate graphic package.  All diagrams needs to be named.  The full network topology will be part of the network disaster recovery plan and should be used to further enhance the understanding of the recovery plan. Referencing  Please use at least 3 academic references that are textbooks or academic journals.  It is essential that you use appropriate APA style for citing and referencing research. Please see more information on referencing here http://library.laureate.net.au/research_skills/referencing Submission Instructions Please submit the written assessment via the Assessment link within Assessment 3. The Learning Facilitator will provide feedback via the Grade Centre in the LMS portal. Feedback can be viewed in My Grades. http://library.laureate.net.au/research_skills/referencing MIS102_Assessment 3 Portfolio Page 3 of 4 Assessment Rubric Assessment Attributes Fail (Yet to achieve minimum standard) 0-49% Pass (Functional) 50-64% Credit (Proficient) 65-74% Distinction (Advanced) 75-84% High Distinction (Exceptional) 85-100% Understanding of the key concepts and knowledge in data and networking. Network Topology of Qantas Airlines
Figure 1: Network Topology Diagram of Qantas Airlines
Introduction
The importance of a recovery plan during a network disaster is vital to avert any fatal consequence. Through this assignment, the case study of the Qantas will be studied. It will be shown how a recovery plan is essential during the time of emergency network failure. Qantas Airlines have recently faced a network disaster. The Qantas airlines could not coordinate with other fights and airports while landing. Seven networks collapsed for Qantas while it had to make an emergency landing in China. The massive failure in the network topology of Qantas has resulted in the creation of immense panic among the passengers. The sudden outrage of the network failure led to an immediate halt of the entire services across the globe as the Qantas airlines have their operations access the globe, a sudden network failure might risk the lives of several thousands of passengers. Therefore, it could be said that a recovery plan is extremely significant for any organisation to restrict and avert damages to the lives of the common people. An effective recovery plan will help any organisations in averting the potential damages and create a stable organisational structure.
Steps taken by the Company
Qantas has been trying to provide effective customer's services to its passengers with the help of its potential network. The entire basis of an airline company is based on the network system. The network connection between the airlines determines the coordination and the timing of landing and take-offs (Chouikhi, El Korbi, Ghamri-Doudane & Saidane, 2017). Therefore, Qantas has been trying to provide effective and timely services to the customers. To deliver these services, a recovery plan about the network management needs to be implemented during various situations.
Internet Outrage
Internet outrage is a prevalent factor in recent times. With the overuse of the internet, there is a huge chance that leads to the downtime of the internet services. In such cases, Qantas needs to have a recovery plan ready to mitigate the problems of network outrage. In the time of network outrage, it is often possible that the organisation will not connect with its various stakeholders (Tootaghaj, Bartolini, Khamfroush & La Porta, 2018). Therefore, Qantas Airlines needs to be a back-up plan of communication; the entire communication system of the airlines should not be based on the internet. Offline communication systems should be available to organisations in case of an internet outage. However, offline communication is not always feasible for an airlines company. Therefore, the airline’s companies can fix an internet outage through other ways. The airline needs to have access to its own networking systems so that they do not have to depend on any outsourced network. Internet usage should be excessive, which leads to wastages. The organisation should implant algorithms IT operations platforms to provide detailed information about the correlation, analytics and visualisation across end-user transactions, applications and the underlying network, compute and storage components.
Presence of Malware and Viruses in the Company's Network
Presence of viruses and the malware in the network can create a huge disaster to the integrity of a company. This is because the presence of the viruses can...
