Describe the technologies and architecture of LANs, Wireless LANs and WANs.  K5. Identify the principles of LAN design.  A1. Analyse and design LAN architecture for organisational requirements.  S1- Analyse data communication and networking technologies in today's Internet. Network Design Case Drop and Forge is a manufacturing firm having 200 employees with a 120-computer network on its Toledo, Ohio, campus. The company has one very large manufacturing plant with an adjacent five-story office building comprising 100 rooms. The office building houses 100 computers, with additional 20 computers in the plant. The current network is old and needs to be replaced. The new network will house a data center, the e-commerce edge and 12 printers. 10 printers will be installed in the different rooms of the office building, while the other two are to be installed in the plant. Employees will be allowed to bring their mobile devices (e.g., smart phones, tablets) to work and use them to access required information such as their work email, required documents and Internet. Note, there are no other campuses, so you can omit WAN access. Requirements There are two parts of the requirements for this assignment – a) Report and b) Presentation. Hand drawn layouts for both logical and physical designs are fine. However, if you like, you Network Design Assignment ITECH2301-Network Architecture and Design CRICOS Provider No. 00103D itech2301_ass2- Network Design Assignment, Semester 1, 2018 Page 2 of 4 would use ConceptDraw (https://conceptdraw.en.softonic.com/) or SmartDraw (www.smartdraw.com) or any other network design software to draw the layout of logical and physical network designs. a) Report [70 marks] The report should be no more than 10 pages and needs to consider the following design tasks: Design Tasks: T1. Using the building-block network design process, develop a logical design of the new network for this enterprise campus that considers the seven network architecture components. Remember to consider the expected growth of the company. For the logical design, you need to consider the following items: [25 marks] 1. Network architecture component 2. Application systems 3. Network users 4. Categorizing network needs 5. Deliverables T2. Design the physical design of the network based on the logical design completed in Task T1. Note, you do not need to develop any alternative design. For the physical design, you need to consider the following items: [25 marks] 1. Designing client and servers 2. Designing circuits 3. Network design tools 4. Deliverables T3. You will make some assumptions; therefore, document your assumptions and explain why you have designed the network in this way. [10 marks] T4. It is very important for you to explain to senior management that there will be significant business benefits derived from continuing to grow the network. Explain in detail what some of these will be. [10 marks] b) Presentation [3O marks] You need to produce presentation consisting of eight PowerPoint slides based on your report and the relevant assessment criteria. The presentation time is 10 minutes. The presentations will be given in Week 12 normally in the timetabled tutorial. 1. Introduction
Development of new network to “Drop and Forge” organization for their office and manufacturing unit requires effective strategies. This network is developed by considering 120 employees which are currently working at “Drop and Forge” organization and the scope of future employees to this organization also requires consideration. The development of network design requires selection of different devices which includes router, switches and WAP devices as per the provided case description. The best products which can easily be maintained and supplied from best organization like Cisco requires selection for this network design. This complete network design is mainly considered for 120 employees where 100 systems are placed in main office and 20 systems are placed in manufacturing unit. The implementation of printers is also carried out where 10 printers are used in different floors of the office building and two printers are installed in manufacturing unit. The wireless connections to user devices with proper authentication are also carried out in my network design for “Drop and Forge” organization.
2. Task – A: Report
3. Logical design
The implementation of logical design for required network to “Drop and Forge” organization is carried out in Packet Tracer simulator. This simulator provides best logical design development environment especially for students. The logical design for “Drop and Forge” organization shows the followed logic and assigned IP to actual working of the proposed network. The actual implementation of network design for “Drop and Forge” organization can be tested in logical manner from this simulator. By developing the logical design, the errors identification and possible corrections in physical design can be carried out. The logical design presents the simulator based execution to required network design before making any final physical implementation.
3.1. Logical design: network architecture components
The identification of architectural components for the logical design is very important and these architectural components defines the operation of logical design network to “Drop and Forge” organization. The main architectural components of proposed logical design are explained below:
· Data center: The data center requirement is main requirement for this network design. This data center will contain different servers and all server based operations will be managed with this data center. The allocation of IP with DHCP is also managed with this data center. The DNS services to “Drop and Forge” organization can also be managed with this data center.
· Main office architectural components: The logical network design to this “Drop and Forge” organization is divided in two divisions which are main building and the manufacturing unit. The main office of this “Drop and Forge” organization will maintain two routers where one router will work as the backup and one router will provide the required services. The implementation of multi port switches to connect 100 employees is carried out here. Two wireless access points will also be required to maintain wireless connectivity to the employee’s devices. All required 10 computers are also connected to this main office as the primary architectural components.
· Manufacturing unit architectural components: The manufacturing unit of this “Drop and Forge” organization will require 20 systems for working employees. One multi port switch is also required here, so that, the network connectivity can be maintained with them. Two printers are also required as the architectural components of this manufacturing unit. A wireless access points is also provided to maintain wireless connection in manufacturing unit.
3.2. Application system
The implementation of logical design involves some application systems with it. The main application systems involved in...
