From the outset of conducting user research, two persona segments with varying behaviours and motivations towards finance were identified and explored to eventually inform the design of the PaySave prototype. The prototype was formed with design solutions that target the users’ pain points, and as such, the following Usability Testing Report highlights the extent to which these objectives have been successfully met and refined. Initial user testing revolved around the recruitment of four individuals who matched the persona segments identified during the research- three were returning participants and one was new. A test plan and action scripts were also created to provide a consistent outline of the process to be relayed to each user. As these tasks were performed, the users’ physical and digital activity were recorded for accurate analysis and observation. The average success rate of task completion stands at 95%, as most users were able to complete each of the tasks with minor time delays and functionality setbacks. The remaining 5% of incomplete tasks happened during one action script where two users had failed. These were identified as issues in the product’s accessability and functionality, and would require minor alterations to the interface of the product. Key Issues During the usability testing, users remarked on the clear and distinct interface and navigation and the easy-to-follow steps when creating a goal or scheduling a new bill. While users found the prototype easy to navigate and completed the set tasks seamlessly, a couple of issues with the product have been identified: - The need for an increased visual hierarchy. When completing a task, some users have taken an alternative route to the end as they have missed or overlooked items completely. - Clearer information on Bill or Goal Types. Most users hesitated on the meaning of these types when creating a goal or scheduling a bill as the information provided on what these each mean were limited to a single sentence. - The end-to-end process can become lengthy. While scheduling a bill/goal is simple and easy to follow, it may not always be the most efficient route as users experienced time delays in completing some of the tasks. Recommendations As such, to counter these issues identified, items to note are: - Increase the contrast between text and background elements to allow for visual salience in the product features and draw the user’s eye to these to allow for successful completion of a task. - Create a more engaging site navigation as well as increase the dashboard content by implementing a collapsible menu, to generate more white space where users won’t accidentally overlook significant features. - Have a larger space on the page through pop up tips (or an external link) that provides a clear explanation of the financial terms present within the site, to allow users to understand them before conducting their tasks. - Consolidate the steps to provide a more efficient and simple process to go about the tasks, from Registration to the actual budgeting of finances. 4 Usability Testing Test Plan Task Script Designed Solution Path(s) Target Segments Script 1: Identifying PaySave’s Privacy Policy Security of your finances and personal information is important to you.
