In order to ensure major project success, it is imperative that good project management principles are used early in the planning stage of a project. As the major project becomes more defined, the Project Management Plan will become the tool by which the project will be effectively managed. Assessment Task: This assessment task is designed to be completed in teams of 4-5 students. You have to choose a project from the networking or telecommunication area. The project duration should not be less than 6 months. Prepare a project proposal and submit it to your tutor in week 8 for approval. The proposal template is available on Moodle. Potential Assignment Topics • Home Automation Systems • Smart Hotel Rooms • Development of Facial Recognition security systems for aged care facility • Developing Cloud Solutions for the Banking sector • Legacy System integration with Cloud Services • Data Migration to Cloud Services Once your project proposal has been approved by the supervising tutor, the team is required to develop a thoroughly researched and professionally designed Project Management Plan (PMP). The PMP should include various phases of a project life cycle, such as initiating, planning, executing and closing a project. The PMP should assess and analyse all project management, quality and constraint elements and criteria relevant to successful project completion. The report also should include post implementation review and recommendations for future improvements. Students should include all aspects of the project as if they were the Project Manager and it is a requirement of the subject that they include the use of project management software (e.g Microsoft Project). Students are expected to show evidence of reading and research using credible resources including, but not confined to their prescribed text. Assessment will be marked on the basis of the realistic nature of the project and how well it is presented. You should present the final document in a form that would be consistent with the details of your chosen project, and written in Business English in a report format. Make sure that the timeline, the budget and the quality of the work is realistic, justifiable and sufficiently attractive to win a tender for a real project. PREPARED BY: Samira Baho MODERATED BY: DR Karthik Nagarajan August 2020 3 Submission Requirements The assignment cover sheet should clearly state all team members’ details including MIT ID. The PMP title cover must outline nominated Project Manager, PM Assistant and Associates. The Project Manager must nominate only 1 team Member responsible for submitting the assignment on Moodle. The PMP should clearly identify the proposed strategic change, expected outcomes, key milestones and deliverables, and appropriate project planning and reporting templates. It should include the following key points.  Clear outline of the project including title, start and end dates, goals and objectives  Team members’ skills (hard and soft sills, title – not names!)  Project Scope  Functional and non-functional requirements  Schedule, cost and resource estimates, Gantt chart, network diagram, Integrated Change Control  Quality management, stakeholder analysis and communications plan  Risk management  Project Management software output Re WBS, time and resource allocation, applied costs, network diagram and Gantt chart  Ethical values and potential issues relevant to the project  Post implementation review and recommendations  Project Signoff (page) signed by all team members Submission Plan Project Proposal – Week 8 in the Lab Project Management Report – Week 11 on Moodle Project Presentation – Week 12 Templates – Project Proposal (template on Moodle) Complete the template and submit it to your Tutor by Week 8 on Moodle. Your proposal should be about 400 to 500 words. It should be project focussed rather than vague, concise and written in clear Business English and Project Management language. All teams must meet Projects Proposal approval from their supervising Tutor to be able to commence and submit their final Project Management Plan. This activity will facilitate initial identification of potential issues and concerns following suitable advice. Project Management Plan (sample template on Moodle) The report should have a consistent, professional, and well-organised appearance. Create the report (Minimum 1800 Words) according the format provided on the PMP template provided on Moodle.
