I feel writing about one’s in
trospection on their self-awareness and emotional intelligence very profound, as it requires an individual to look within to find out what his strengths and weaknesses are. It is how successfully one uses their strengths in managing their personal and professional life, and what effects does their weaknesses have on their personality and behaviour. What I believe about myself is that I’m a person who is emotionally intelligent and well aware about my emotions, understands them, uses them and manages them in dealing with the situations in my own life as well as while dealing with other people in my personal, professional and social life. Self-Awareness is one of the key components involved in the concept of Emotional Intelligence, with other components having importance of their own, such as Self-Perception, Self-Expression, Interpersonal, Decision Making and Stress Management (Petrides et al., 2016).
Self-Awareness and Emotional Intelligence are interrelated and of utmost importance in our professional life because it involves dealing and communicating with many and different people on daily basis. Professionally, I get the opportunity to interact and come across so many people from diverse backgrounds, thoughts, perspectives, experiences, culture and beliefs at my workplace that it becomes a matter of sheer importance for me to identify, understand and manage my own emotions along with relating them to others’.
