The assessments are integrated pieces of work and you should draw on the first parts as you work on this final part. The first assessment focused on your journey so far and current capabilities. This final assessment report should present your plans for your future development as a leader. MGT601_Dynamic Leadership_ Assessment 2 Page 2 of 5 Your Task: The task for this assessment is to prepare and present a plan for your development as a leader. The period of your plan could be 2, 5 or 10 years. Select the period that makes most sense to you, depending on the current stage of your life and career. Briefly explain the reason for the time period that you have selected. Your plan needs to be based on or anchored by an established model of personal development. A number of possible models were provided in Module 1. The choice of a model is up to you. The Whitman GROW and Boyatzis Intentional Change models are two of the most comprehensive at a personal level. However, other models may be more relevant to your current needs. You are also welcome to use an appropriate model that was not included in Module 1, provided it meets the tests of academic rigour and usefulness to you. Provide a brief description of your chose model and a justification for your selection. It is important that you go to the source documents and not rely only on the summary version of your chosen model. Additional information on leadership development to help you prepare your plan and to continue your reflexive journal is provided in the subject Resources section of each module. Structure: The precise structure is up to you. A clear logic flow, using a “Contents” page and section headings, will help your readers to follow your thinking. The use of an “Executive Summary” as a précis or abstract of your report, an “Introduction” to set the context and a “Conclusion” to capture your key learnings is desirable in a business subject. Detailed, supporting information such as psychometric results, planning templates, etc., should be placed in an appendix, where they will not be included in the word count. Within the body of your report, the model of development that you choose will largely determine the structure and section headings. Reflexive Writing - First Person: You should write in the first person, because this is about YOU, your reflections and your interpretations. (eg “I considered this advice to be….. because it had a big impact on my……..and it helped me to understand my………..”). Try to be as specific as possible, use brief examples to illustrate your points and try to select examples that enable you to demonstrate learning against the attributes in the rubric. All other principles of academic writing apply, including strict referencing, acknowledgement of the work of others and avoidance of plagiarism. MGT601_Dynamic Leadership_ Assessment 2 Page 3 of 5 Referencing: You should include a list of specific references that you have actually used in your report. For this assessment, a minimum of three journal articles, academic papers or textbooks is expected. References to any secondary sources or web sites are additional. The reference list and Executive Summary (if you choose to use one) and any appendices will not be included in the word count. It is essential that you use appropriate APA style for citing and referencing research. Please see more information on referencing here http://library.laureate.net.au/research_skills/referencing Submission Instructions: Submit your Self-Reflective Analysis in Assessment 2 submission link in the Assessment section found in the main navigation menu of the subject Blackboard site. A rubric will be attached to the assessment. The Learning Facilitator will provide feedback via the Grade Centre in the LMS portal. Feedback can be viewed in My Grades. Marking Rubric: Your reports will be marked against the rubric which is show on the next pages. Please ensure that your submission addresses all five of the Assessment Attributes in the rubric. http://library.laureate.net.au/research_skills/referencing MGT601_Dynamic Leadership_ Assessment 2 Page 4 of 5 Learning Rubric: Assessment 2 : Leadership Plan Assessment Attributes Fail (Unacceptable) 0-49% Pass (Functional) 50-64% Credit (Proficient) 65-74% Distinction (Advanced) 75 -84% High Distinction (Exceptional) 85-100% LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLANNING 30% Little or no reference to own aspirations or observations on leadership. Introduction
According to Davis (2014), Leadership development plan is helpful in creating a wonderful career by helping in developing leadership strategies. Leadership is a quality that only few ones are able to achieve. It takes a lot of effort of an individual to grasp the skill to be a good leader. This report will describe about the leadership plan that I will develop to enhance my skills. Learning leadership skills will help me to guide others and be confident of myself. I will be creating the leadership plan for five years to evaluate the success of other top leaders across the world. I will research for various skills that I need to improve and I will also create an action plan to complete all the activities in the given timeframe.
I am choosing steps of personality development for improving my leadership skills. During my academics and when I was doing training at a company, I used to handle the team of maximum five members. But that few months were not enough for me to be a great leader. I used to manage the tasks on my own and manage the projects that our team used to receive. Now, I am working in an IT company where I have got position of a project manager. Based on my past experiences and improving skills, I will be using few steps for developing a personal leadership strategy. I have found this model as effective for me because the steps covered the whole journey for me to enhance my leadership skills.
This report will discuss about how I researched and practice the leadership skills for developing myself as a good individual. To be a great leader, self-discipline and self- awareness are the most important concepts that I will be discussing in this report.
Learning Outcomes
Reflection on self- development as a Leader to Build Self-awareness
It is a new thing for me when I started focusing on building leadership qualities within me. I found this skill to be the most important part of my life. I always wanted to lead the team and be forward in giving presentations. And now, it is the appropriate time for me to enhance these skills. I am planning to do self-development as it will be helpful in my future when I will deal with clients at workplace or will get a responsibility to work on a project by collaborating with the team.
Self-development comes from self-discipline. So, first of all I have started to be patient, sincere in accomplishing day to day task and to be optimistic in sorts of life. Self-development will give me potential to think positively for achieving my goals and objectives. I have conducted a qualitative research for Self-development that is for personality development.
· Personality development: I have identified the areas where I was lacking for the leadership skill like short temper. Being a leader, I have to control my aggression. I have improved myself and avoided to be an introvert.
· Habits: I wanted to improve my behaviour, thus, I have started to do meditation to keep my mind calm and relax. With the help of this, now I am able to concentrate on different tasks efficiently.
· Emotions: recovering myself from being emotionally weak person helped me a lot to know more about self-awareness. I encountered the list of likes and dislikes and managed to resolve this issue also.
· Values: This part of skill development I have put this into the topmost priority. Obviously when improving my personality, I have to indulge some moral values in me.
All these things took a lot of time as I have documented each and everything where I was lacking.
How I will build self-awareness
· Skill development: I have founded the skill gap when I conducted research about self-development. I have conducted assessments that were based on the quarterly basis that is for three months. I have done this for one year to improve myself.
· Identification of strengths and weakness: this is the key to stay confident that I have used lately. The only weakness is not being true to myself. But this time, I noted down my entire strengths and weaknesses that I think I had and converted them into the effective ones for me.
· Development of decision-making skills: this is really important for me to learn that is to take intuitive decisions in life. At a manager level when it is must to take decisions quickly, I don’t want myself to lack in this skill. Decision-making is one of the core qualities of a leader as he makes decision quite faster thinking about all the possibilities all at once Sutton (2016).
· Understanding: I am always perfect in understanding things very well. This time I took major actions like I enhance my knowledge in technical areas, management, economics and some part of psychology. This is to understand the nature of the people with whom I am interacting.
Personal leadership development strategy
Reminders play a vital role in achieving goals for becoming a leader. To develop strategy, I have listed down the activities and steps that I have to follow as described in the website by Criminal Watch Dog (n.d.).
Step-1 Definition of a leader
I wanted to ensure myself that I am moving on the right track, thus, I have collected a feasible definition of who is a leader....
