MGT 445 courseApple Vs. U.S. book publishersUsethe Internet or other resources to find an article that describes a negotiation situation that resulted in one or both parties seeking a formal intervention resolution. An example might be a business negotiation conflict related to a Fortune 500 company or labor relations (Union activity) that resulted in one or both parties seeking a formal intervention resolution.1,400- to 1,750-word paper in which you address the following:Identify the primary sources of the conflict and how each party attempted to manage the impasse.Discuss the formal intervention strategy used and whether it satisfactorily resolved the conflict.Identify one additional formal intervention strategy that the team thinks could have had the same or better outcome.Format your paper consistent with APA guidelinesFormal Intervention Strategy usedThe rise in popularity of electronic books sold by one of the world’s largest onlineretailers, Amazon made Apple interested in selling their own electronic books. Since Amazonwas already charging almost $15 per electronic book, Apple thought to partner up with differentpublishing companies to offer lower rates for their e-books sold in the Apple application store foriPads. Apple negotiated with the publishers by offering them all a percentage of the e-bookssold. Apple took it upon themselves to come up with a scheme that would take business awayfrom Amazon and other virtual retailers by offering publishers more by slowly increasing theprice of their e-books which resulted in more revenue for Apple and the publishers. Before Apple and the publishers found themselves in a conflict with U.S. Department of Justice forcharges of violating federal law, they negotiated their deal amongst themselves using the formalintervention strategy “process consultation”. Process consultation is defined as “a set ofactivities on the part of the consultant that helps the client to perceive, understand, and act uponthe process events which occur in the client’s environment”(Lewicki, Saunders, Barry, 2010).Apple and the different publishers negotiated privately without any third party assistance.Meetings would be set up in private locations where little to no paper trails could be found. Thenegotiation was a bit sneaky and eventually resulted in legal issues for Apple and the publishersinvolved. If Apple chose a different formal intervention strategy to work with publishers tocompete with Amazon they would not have gotten into legal trouble. ReferencesLewicki, R., Saunders, D., & Barry, B.
