Metacognition is ‘thinking about what you are thinking about’. This is an invaluable skill and process to bring into your reasoning and communicating. For instance, when you are talking with a child, parent or colleague, how do you change your language? And even in the process of speaking, you can ask yourself: Have I got my thinking right about what they can understand and what is important to them? Am I using metalanguage as well metacognition? How well do you understand, monitor and adapt the language you use in different circumstances?
