Men and women who wear perfume, cologne, aftershave, scented hair-care products, or scented cosmetics can offend others without realizing it. Fragrances should be light enough so they do not disturb other workers. Working in close proximity to others and in closed or windowless offices can compound the problem of a heavy fragrance. In addition, people with allergies can become physically ill from breathing strong scents. After using a product for a period of time, the user becomes less sensitive to the smell and may not be aware that the scent is disturbing to others.
a. Ask a friend to be honest and tell you if your fragrances can be smelled by a person near you. Are your fragrances too heavy or offensive?
b. How would you tell a coworker diplomatically that you find a scent too heavy?
