Many of the selections in this chapter, especially this one and the previous one by Patricia J. Williams about Storm Stocker, provide evidence of the way American culture is struggling with the stereotyped gender roles and the fear that they are in many ways like prisons from which we can’t escape. Write an evaluative essay in which you examine this claim; in so doing, you may wish to support, reject, or modify it. As you write, you’ll likely want to refer to one or more of the selections you’ve read and perhaps quote it or them. When doing so, remember that you’ll need to incorporate your sources and credit them properly.
