In the light of the above choose an organization that is 14001 certified and analyse, critically, the various aspects that characterize the 14001 environmental framework within that organization.

Executive Summary
In the current environment of business there exists numerous of world market
compressions that are compelling internationally and of course domestically competing
companies so to understand better about the costs and benefits of their services and products.
The concept of Environmental management is taking its place very diligently now
days as it helps a firm to cause loss of revenue and lack of control for an organization to
perform its best along with thinking about the future of society. The standardization of the
Environmental management so to implement and develop the programs that can provide an
assistance to these companies in order to monitor, improve and start a program in relevance
to Environment. Environmental Management System is the reason of coming into effect of
ISO 14000.
Environmental Management System
According to ISO.org 2013, the Environmental Management system act of ISO 14000
is very much recognized world-wide because of its applications and concerned towards the
society and towards the environment. Also, it is majorly known for its voluntary set of
standards which are formulated in Amsterdam by the body of the International Standards
Organization so to do the incorporation of all the aspects of environment into product and
operations standards. The framework got completed in the year of 1996, September and also
a set of stipulations to implement and Environmental Management System. Environmental
policy is being established in concern with specific requirements by the standards of ISO
14000. There are other actors as well such as keeping in concern with doing planning
regarding environmental objectives, also to implement and operate programs in order to meet
targets and objectives and keep check with the actions are being taken correctly for
management review and actions. The below is the mention of certain points as how the ISO
14000 works and how it can get implemented to different firms. (O'Brien 2001)
The first and foremost phase as how the process works is the commitment from the
senior executives and management. Environmental management system is not just a process
to follow rather it requires a determination form the management team of a firm, if they are
not very much committed towards the same then there is a huge chance that the whole effort
might get failed. The initial step is to plan the objectives and design a framework by doing
proper budgeting, scheduling and assigning resources, responsibilities and personnel to the
Environment Management System. Again the next phase is to narrow down the planning
process into further four parts; one is the environmental aspects, then legal requirements ,
3
then decide on goals and targets and last is the environmental management program. (Bansal
& Clelland 2004)
It is suggested to draw the plan along with developing the same and made it available
to other employees anytime they want to have a look into that. This helps an organization to
understand that where the plan is going and how it can be improved further. After that, as it is
mentioned the next phase is to operate and do implementation, again there is a further break
down of the process to make the system more reliable and effective. The program is
developed in the first phase that is planning then there are drawn further categories such as
responsibility and structure after that awareness, competence and training then it is devised to
do communication and then it is important to document the environmental management
system. Then do the documentation of controlling, in any process or program it is very
important to have a backup for the tie of emergency similarly here it should be one step as to
design an emergency, preparedness and response program.
Then laying out the plan to the employees in order to provide them training and
increase their consciences for the Environmental management system (EMS). There is to
keep a line open for communication among personnel and environmental issues to have an
emergency plan draft and documentation of everything so to make things convenient. As all
the phases are draft, the important thing to consider is the documentation of plan this gives a
picture to the organization as where the fir is heading to in the program implementation and
what are the things required to be changed. (O'Brien 2001)
As the third phase is to have proper corrective measures and keep checking on the
process, this step is not to be taken immediately rather a quarter or a year time should be
given to the upper process and then review can only be done. Once the time appears then the
measurement and monitoring can be followed by the corrective, prevention and non-
conformance action, then recording and auditing of the process is done. Now with the help of
above the four sub categories an assessment of the EMS can be done for the period. Look for
the obstacles and other problems that could arise and take some effective measures. The final
phase here is to do the review of ISO 14001 to review the whole process and start from the
scratch. As the process is definitely a continuous improvement. (Bansal & Clelland 2004)
ISO 14000 Certification
The ISO 14000 provides and assists a firm and gives it a chance so to do the
maximization of the use of infrequent resources, get possible global and of course national
recognition to follow the environmental policies. All these measures can do the contribution
4
to the bottom line. An Environment Management system is a formal define framework that
gives a path or a system to deal with the impacts caused due to environment and to the
environment. This mainly has the factors such as designing and understanding of the policies
related to the natural environment factors, then there is an assessment done for those designed
plans, and then finally the implementation and execution of those activities which do affect
the whole firm and its bonding with the natural environment. However it is observed that the
specific features of the system do vary form one organization to another. One more thing is
important in this whole launch of the process as while establishing a management system for
the environment protection, a company also requires assessing the internal assessment of the
impacts that...
