Make sure the recording procedure itself—the data-gathering instrument—is accessible, portable, and easy to use. If the system is too complex (e.g., too many different types of behaviors are observed), the reliability and validity of the observations can be affected. In general, try not to set up a recording procedure that will be aversive to the observer.
