M1- Discussion Case Victoria
Narrator:
The case of Victoria. The client is Victoria, a multiracial teenage girl. Her school counselor recommended mental health counseling because Victoria had shown a number of behavioral changes over the last two months. Including deliberate self injury specifically cutting. Victoria does not want the counselor to tell her parents that her brothers gang members are forcing her to have sex with them.
Victoria:
So my grades have been dropping. I can't focus at school. I don't want to be around anybody. And my school counselor is worried or nervous or maybe just noticed, but she's told my parents which is why I'm here today. And maybe -- I mean there's nothing that nobody knows. I mean I guess I'll tell you. My brother is a member of a gang. Which is crazy but he brings me to his friends houses and while he's hanging out, out front, he lets them touch me and have sex with me. And I can't do anything about it or say anything, or not let them, because I don't know what they would do. So I can't -- there's nothing I can do. I mean I've been cutting because I just need to feel something different. And my parents are not going to believe any of this, I mean I don't even know when I say it to you if I believe it. But I mean because he's their firstborn son, I mean he's you know the prince at home so. You're not going to tell them are you?
