Leadership viewpoints suggest that employee involvement in company’s decision making helps them to contribute towards the success of the organization. Their contribution through decision making and actions helps to create a positive environment which af
fects their jobs. Employee involvement helps in engaging the employees and shows their skills in the area of their speciality which in turn helps to contribute towards the success of the organization. Hence, it helps the HR managers of the various organizations to measure how the decision making process helps the employees to get involved and get the work done and act as an important contributing factor to overall engagement. Therefore, the employees once get to know that they are fully involved in the progress of organization; they take ownership and become committed towards their work. This helps in retaining the employees.
The various ways in which employees can be involved in decision making process are through scrutiny of the root cause, team works, and upgradation of Kaizen system and choose valuable proposal from the suggestion drop box. Hence, for efficient employee participation practices it also requires organizational commitment. Employees should be imparted training in building team skills like effective communication and team problem resolution strategies. These should be accompanies with rewards and recognition, bonus and promotion policies. (Dean Fulford; 2019)
The Tannenbaum and Schmidt continuum model discusses about how the manager delegates the authority to his subordinates thereby reducing his authority. This helps the employees to work freely and as per the prescribed guidelines of the manager. This also helps to develop a supervisor-subordinate relationship and helps to increase the productivity by more involvement of the employees. But, there is a drawback of this leadership model which is not explained. Although the authority of the manager delegates the authority and work to his team subordinates, yet his responsibility or accountability towards the team and the project is not absolved. It is he who has to be accountable in case there is any discrepancy or mistake taken place by the employees. Therefore, when delegating the authority to his subordinates the manger must be well grown and experienced to handle any situation during disasters. Factors that improves by involvement
There are various engagement opportunities which can help the employees get involved in the management decision making. They are as follows:
Career development prospects: When the organization invests both time and money by providing on job knowledge, imparting training and skill and career development programs for their employees in the workplace, employees also realises that their organization has interest in the development of their career.
Fair compensation plans: Salary structure is an important criterion for which employees retains themselves in the organizations. The organization must discuss and explain the pay structure policy and what are the criteria based on which an employee gets promoted in the organization. Hence, providing the employees the details about the pay structure and promotion policies, the employees will work harder to achieve the desired goal.
